July 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!! I'm in Del Rio and just got back from Acuna where we had dinner!! I'm so exited. The other gal having her lapband done has her sister with her. The sister is a surgical nurse and has been down here with 4 other people that had their band done by Dr. Rod. We had a great time at the Mexican Restaurant and had a mariachi (sp?) band play music for us. Anyway, now back in hotel and drinking Water before midnight. Tomorrow I'll enter bandland.

Glad to hear KMO is doing well!! Thoughts and prayers for all of you newbies!!

ready, i'll be thinking of you! best of luck. you'll be in bzndland soon. many wishes & prayers are being sent to you, from me lol

Well I'm counting down the days to my fill. Any actual restriction is pretty much gone. My portions are less but definitely not one cup. I was really hoping that I wasn't going to have to get a fill right away but it's sure looking like I will. Bummer.

BTW congratulations to the newly banded!!

I'm the same way, Timetolive. I know I'm not feeling any restriction, but am trying to eat like I have it. I have my first fill on August 17th, but I was told that was not marked in stone and that if I felt like I could eat like I was before to call and they would do one sooner. I'm giving it one more week, and if I don't feel any differently, then I'm calling them.

YOU ALL ARE THE BEST!

PS did anyone else have an issue with keeping a liquid diet down? did you get nausiated?

KMO, glad to hear you're doing better today. The day after surgery, the hospital personnel brought me liquids, but to my surprise, I could only take a couple of spoonfuls, and became nauseated. This feeling goes away though, I think it's mainly from all the drugs that are in you body. That's what the nurse told me anyway. Welcome to bandland.

To KMO - I was banded Wednesday and yesterday sucked. But today is better. Ice packs help tremendously, especially at port site (or whatever is hurting around the big incision. Anyway - I have had no problem with nausea (thank God!), but doing only tiny amount of Clear Liquids for first 24 hours (just sipping tiniest sips ever - about 1/4 cup an hour). Yesterday moved to full liquids and had no problems - but still tiny amounts. Now not to say I'm not hungry, I still feel like I want a big pizza or something - but I am so scared to vomit or feel more pain I won't do it. I am going to follow this diet to a T - which for me is liquids 2 weeks then pureed foods 2 weeks, and so on and so on -

Slept OK last night but getting out of the bed in the morning is a killer. Once up and around I feel much better. I have been walking around my house alot - when I sit still is when I hurt.

I hope to keep up with all of you banded this week so we can check progress. I'm still wondering of I can use a heating pad today - or if ice only. I will call doc to ask.

Off to have my carnation instant Breakfast and chew up some more Vitamins (argh.)

Working hard at it, Marie

well today is my one week mark from the day I was banded. I am feeling much much better! I am a little confused about the full liquid diet deal. Since I am only doing liquids do i still have to wait an hour before drinking Water? Maybe im crazy but because its all liquid I just didnt see the point. Some one help me out here

I'm hoping someone will clear that up for both of us b/c I am confused as well! If your diet is liquid (like cream Soup or jello) do you have to wait to drink Water 30 minutes before and after drinking the soup? That doesn't make sense, does it? But I was wondering the same thing. And I was also wondering if way down the line when I am on a "normal" diet, can I not have soup with my meal at all? I guess not if I am to avoid liquids with meals. I just assumed they meant liquids as in something you drink in a glass, but what if your meal is stew or some type of meat with a lot of broth?

Any advice from anyone out there about clearing this up?:help:

Thanks NatesMommy for bringing it up - you're not crazy or if you are then count me in!

Today is one week since I was banded and I can't believe how easy it has been thus far. My surgeon requires 30 - 35 days of clear liquid fasting, I can't believe that I have this much energy on broths and Water, the odd dash of cranberry juice. I feel great.

I am wondering how the heck I am going to make it to day 30 or anywhere near that. But as a dear banded friend of mine said, we can give up anything for the short term and we must do the best to give our bands the best chance. Much like what we had to do when we got pregnant, giving up alcohol and such.

Anyway entering week 2.

Very glad I have this place to come, to get inspired and read everyone else's story.

Cheers

Paula

Hi all! I was banded on July 12 by Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. I was up and walking around the same day. No pain meds needed and no problems except soreness around the port site. Drove to my son's house in San Diego 2 days later and stayed with him until the 17th. I drove from San Diego to Sacramento on Monday the 17th and then from Sacramento to Vancouver Washington on Tuesday the 18th. Arrived home exhausted, but sooooo happy to be home. This was the easiest surgery I ever had. I'm still on liquids and the Doctor has said "No mushies", don't know why. I'm supposed to stay on liquids until day 22 after the surgery then go directly to solids. I must say, even with the Protein Shakes I'm really hungry. I have lost 22 lbs from a beginning weight of 305 lbs. I'm 61 years old and I hope to make these the real golden years with a my lap band helping me to lose weight and feel so much better. Could someone tell me how to add those little weight loss logos to the the bottom of the post?? I also added a post to the complications forum about a small problem I'm having with the port site. If anyone else is having the same let me know. It would ease my mind. Congratulations to all us July banders and happy losing!!

I'm 64 years old and was banded on July 18. I feel great. The surgery went great. The only thing I had was some port pain which is completely gone. I never had any nausea after the surgery and not one gas pain....not sure why, but God is good. If you need help adding a ticker to your post please PM me and we will get you one done. Just pick it out and send the info of your starting weight and goal weight. Also if you want a glitter sig. line let me know. My daughter can do those things, where I can't. I'm challenged on computers I think.....

Best of luck to you and if I can help in any way please let me know. I think TickerFactory.com is where most get their stickers, although it isn't where I got mine....my daughter and I had fun going through all of them.

I can't help you with the port pain as mine disappeared in a matter of days. It could be because I have the low profile port I'm not sure. It is much smaller and weighs less.

KMO,

Have your doctor call you in some phenergran for upset stomach. It will nip it in the bud. I have had to take it several times and it stops it immediately. Glad your doing well.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
