today i was so nauseous i had to sleep most of the day! i called the docs office early this morning and didnt hear anything back until 2 hours ago!! my doc is out of town for the week... go figure! but luckily the other doc in the office just so happened to sit in on my surgery so he was able to offer some great advise! he said that they had to use a smaller tube for my stomach so its a possibility my nausea is being caused by me taking too big of sips when i drink! i thought i was taking tiny ones, but i guess not tiny enough! he also suggested i start trying to get in some Protein Shake 2 times a day. since im not able to eat anything they want me to try that. and go back to liquids! broth, Soups, and thin Protein shakes! i plan on going to Walmart tomorrow to see if i can find some unflavored powder to mix in crystal lite or tea! apparently patience is the key right now, and unfortunately i am the least patient person i know!! :)

Hope if you have a GNC, they have an unflavored Protein powder. Otherwise you're going to have to order unflavored from powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury.

I hope you feel better soon. I have a cold right now, but unfortunately, it has not killed my appetite.

feel better hope!

im starting to think this surgery was a bad idea! the simple action of drinking when im thirsty has become overwhelming! i would compare it to being engulfed in flames and only able to use a syringe to put it out! im actually less active than before surgery because i dont want to do anything thats going to make me more thirsty than i already am. i have always consumed a great deal of liquids during the day, at this point im not missing food at all... just being able to drink when im thirsty is something thats really getting me down

I think you should call your doctor's office again and insist that they see you TODAY. At least some lab work could show if you have an electrolyte imbalance, or dehydration.

It disturbs me when I hear that you have received a diagnosis of "flu", and then "too big sips" (who knows how big your sips are but you?...this lays the blame on you for the problem and that may not be the cause). It's time they help you, see you in the office, and get to the bottom of this before things get really bad.

Have your bowels been moving ok? Are you having abdominal pain? There are lots of questions and not enough answers. You've paid them and it's their job to help you.

Hope,

I also think it's time you insist on being seen. Track your Fluid intake for 24 hours...tell the doctor's office..."hey..I'm only getting in "x" # oz in a 24 hour period! I need more hydration!

In the meantime, how about ice chips? would that help? also Jello?

well i CAN drink, but when i do i feel more nauseous. now, theres one thing that could be a factor, im having a ton of sinus drainage! could that be causing the nausea? i just feel like each time i call the office they act like its no big deal and i should just be patient and it will go away.i havent had the chance to tell them this tho. now, i have had problems with the office staff before. the doc is out of town so theres no talking to him. i dont want to over react, but i also dont want to be sick and it get worse!

I wonder if your sinus drainage is filling up your sleeve to the point that adding more fluids makes you nauseas (like if you're over full). A simple med to clear up the sinus drainage might be the key here. Also...drinking fluids will THIN those sinus drainages and make them.....less filling (gross I know).

I am writing to you because I TOO have been having sinus drainage non-stop since this surgery and have not found anyone else who has encountered this condition. I have spoken to my surgeon about it and he just dismisses it as unrelated to the surgery. My PCP just gave me a referral to a ENT (Ear, nose and throat specialist) which I have not followed up on yet. This is the first time I am hearing about someone here experiencing sinus drainage to such a degree. In the morning when I awake and go to brush my teeth I spend about 20 minutes retching and heaving as I try to rinse the mucus and saliva from a gargle. I am able to drink but not plain Water only Vitamin Water and only the Tropical Citrus flavor (dark yellow). If it were not for this drink I'd be dehydrated. I just recently ordered something called "flora sinus" you can google it online. My cousin swears by it. I have only been on it a few days, it contains NAC and Probiotics both of which are supposed to clear away all of the mucus, nasal drip and whatnot. I am not so sure however if this is not a direct effect of the surgery coming up rom the mucus lining of the stomach through the esophagus. Or, if it is a side effect from any of the medications we may be taking. Please keep me posted and let me know of your progress. I am very sorry you are going through this I know the nausea it causes. As a temporary fix I did try zyrtec a couple of times to dry my up and it seemed to help a little. Please keep me informed and I will do the same for you. I wish you relief and resolution to any of these problems for the new year.

3 days before my surgery i came down with a major sinus infection! i had some heavy antibiotics and it was gone by surgery day. but i wonder if somehow this is a result of that sinus infection. i might give my pcp a call and see if they can give me something to dry it up. also i usually have a runny nose and drips after being under anesthesia. dont know, but i will keep you updated on what happens lan!

Before my surgery I had some sort of mucus thickness trapped in my throat. It was something that was bothersome to me because I could not seem to dislodge it. Right after surgery whilst in my room I began to gag, (before I could even have ice chips) and I heaved and retched and out came globs of brownish black foamy mucus. I think it was what was lodged in there for whatever reason. I also needed my esophagus to be repaired during my sleeve surgery so who knows if any of my symptoms were related. All this guess work is very frustrating and I really wish that there was more certainty where the medical professionals were concerned. I do hope that you get the answers and remedies you need. please let me know how thing progress and I will do the same for you.

i got a call from the nutritionist late this afternoon, and she was calling to tell me my blood work had come back from the other day and it was all perfect. while i had her on the phone, since no one bothered to call me back today, i asked if she had any suggestions for the nausea as far as the sinus drainage goes. she told me that each morning i should drink warm Water with lemon and it wil break up and flush the mucus out of my pouch. i tried some tonight and aside from the horrid taste, it seems to have helped. im going to try again in the morning and see how tomorrow goes! i picked up some EAS premade shakes today at Walmart. they are the carb smart kind and i will try that tomorrow as well!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
