So.....I guess I'm getting sleeved on Monday

Hi There!

I'm Olivia and I'm getting sleeved on Monday. I started looking into the lap band about a month ago and got turned onto the sleeve at the seminar. Because there was an exclusion on my insurance policy, I was able to get this ball rolling quickly, and, geez, Monday is right around the corner!

I'm in my early 30's, single, and would like to lose around 130-140 pounds. I'm not that nervous yet, but I'm sure it will hit me Sunday night. My surgeon is Dr. Dirk Rodriguez in Dallas, TX and I just finished my last pre-op appt and nutrition class today. I've been lurking for awhile, so already took advice of Tiffany and ordered the multi-pack of Protein powder from bodybuilders.com.

Anyway, just thought I would finally say hi. I'm sure I will need this forum for support post op. I'm really excited about this new life and everything that will come with it...including the exercise!

One question though, my surgeon's post op diet includes full liquids the first week. Anyone have thoughts on that?? I'd rather play it safe, than get sick, etc.

Thanks for listening!

Olivia

Hey guys. Things are so much better today. The surgery went well. The doc started off with a single incision, and then had to go to five. So far so good, two have some bruising, and one bled a little yesterday. Really the only pain I've had so far are the gas pains in my shoulder and side. Every time I got up or down, it killed.

However, today I'm getting up and down with little wincing. :) I've already been on two walks outside today (it must be 65 or 70 degrees here), been sipping Water, ate an ounce of Protein pudding, had a couple of Vitamins, watched the movie Taken, and will probably try to have two ounces of soup in a few minutes.

We got home from the hospital late yesterday afternoon and by dinner time, my mom was starving, since she'd been pretty much by my side since Sunday evening. Anyway, I was trying to explain to her how to use the gas grill outside so she could make bbq chicken, and it just couldnt be done. So.....I went outside, told her how to get the grill going, then proceeded to cook and baste the bbq chicken for her and my roommate. It was really the best feeling to be, 1) active and 2) to not feel any head or stomach hunger for that bbq chicken. I think they could have put a plate of mexican food in front of me and it would have had the same effect. How long will this last?? I hope for a very long long time, but I'm sure that's not realistic. Anyway, I will be enjoying it while it lasts!

That's it for now. I'm going to peruse the board for a bit to see if the other two that were getting sleeved yesterday, have posted anything.

Will keep everyone updated!

Olivia

Olivia, how great to hear you sounding so well. I think we all hope for the type of recovery that you're having. I hope to follow suit in the next couple of months!

Kermit: I am praying for you today (monday) When you read this you will be on the Loosers side! Yeaaah!

You will not be able to excersize for 6 weeks. Just walk. NO lifting any thing over 7 lbs unless it is your kidlett. This is major surgery. You must let your tummy heal. Staple line settle etc. After the 6 weeks, you must start slowly. Do 5 min at a time. take a 1 to 2 min. break/rest between exercizes. and No weights to start. If you can afford it, get a trainer with experience in recovery training. BE PATIENT. Give yourself Lots of time to recover from the surgery. You need your strength to go about your normal day. Do not waste it at the gym.

Do not worry about calories until week 3. You need to get all the liquids down you can the first two weeks. Then come back to here and we will help you transition to week three. Your dietician did not mention calories because you need to constantly sip sip sip. Water Protein Soup tea popcycles. I wish I had had a dietition! Oh well I had VST. All my sleeve sisters here answered all my questions. Post soon! God speed.

Just re-read this about the calories. Good to know. I'm sure I'm not meeting my calorie requirements as it stands right now. Luckily, everything I've tasted hasn't been that bad. So I'm able to sip the Isopure, water, use those protein sample packs that Tiffany suggested mixed with water or SF pudding, mixing a small amount of unflavored powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury with Soups, etc.

However, I'm literally forcing myself to "eat" as there is still no hunger whatsoever. I'm definitely doing more water drinking and walking/activity than anything else.

But some water weight came off....down 9 pounds. Can't wait to get this thing going full blast! :cursing:

Hey Olivia! so glad to see that everything went well for you! I just got home from the hospital, I agree, the gas pains were a killer. I'm so sore and my tummy is swollen, and I have bad reactions to pain meds so I'm going it with a brave face and a smile. I'll post more when I'm feeling better. Any word from out "sleeve brother"

Yay! You sound better then me the night I got home from the hospital. I'm with you about the pain meds. I can't tolerate any of them....so liquid Aleve was what I was sent home with. I don't think Frank has been on since a couple of nights before his surgery. You'll feel better and better each day. Yesterday, I wasn't sure if I'd be back to work by Monday, but today I'm sure I will be. Speak to you soon!

Congrats on a great surgery and recovery!! Keep us informed. I am meeting with the doctor January 4th, to schedule my surgery. It is exciting to hear from you and many others.

Merry Christmas

Kermit, each day keeps getting better and better. I think I am having hunger games too. Things are starting to smell better. Glad you are feeling good. Nutrition and hydration are so important. I like powdered whey Protein, with skim milk. You get that extra protein from milk.

I hope you have a fabulous day today. Schatziegril
