Band-to-Sleeve...my story..

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I was banded in Feb 2006 and thought my life would change forever. Boy oh boy did my life change....i had terrible reflux and could not keep anything down, my port was not secure and ended up stuck "jammed into my stomach" as my doc put it, constant sinus infections due to reflux, and so on and so forth. Not to mention, the weight lose (and gain) was not managed by my band, but rather by me and was a struggle.

March of this year, I was in an auto accident. This jammed my band out of place and the decision to remove it was made; however, I struggled with the idea of another wls for fear I would be disappointed and have the numerous health issues.

On 10/12, the band was out, and the sleeve was created. I am very happy with my decision and despite the pain from the surgery, I love the feeling of no more reflux, no pain in my side from the port and the doc cleaned up my scar tissue.

Now I'm on my new journey to continue my weight lose, eating healthy, and getting fit~

:welcome:

Welcome, and thank you so much for sharing your story with us. I was a band to sleeve revision as well, and have no regrets about switching. The sleeve is easy and almost effortless compared to the band. I am confident you will love it and life so much more now.

ASBrown -welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing your story - I'm sorry you had to go through all of that - I was not a revision, so can't even imagine the hassle with the band, and then to be in an auto accident on top of it, had to really suck. Glad you're on the road to recovery!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
