Surgeons in North Carolina

Edie~

My procedure went very well. Dr. P is by far the best physician I have ever had. I went in for surgery early Wednesday 1/27. I was up walking to the bathroom in recovery. Don't get me wrong' date=' I had a little help, but couldn't stand using the bed pan. So I got up and walked (with nurse assistance) to the bathroom. I was home Thursday night. The staff at Presbyterian Bariatric (Dr. Pirello's office) are great. They were very helpful and supportive right from the beginning. They are all so personable. It's a great feeling to know when you walk in they will call you by your first name. I am 15 weeks out and down 63 pounds. I am not sure how many sleeves he's performed, he was in Concord before he started at Prebyterian. I may have been one of the first few he performed at Presbyterian-Matthews. Either way, I would do it over and over and recommend Dr. P anytime. He and his staff are great. Good luck and please keep me posted. I am here for support if needed.

Thanks,

Hi,

Dr. Adolfo Fernandez at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston Salem will be doing my sleeve. He did my band placement ! He is awesome and has a wonderful and comprehensive team ! They are a blue cross blue shield center of excellence too so I know that helps with some insurance approvals. Hope this helps ????

I just got home today from surgery yesterday from Dr. Pirrello. He is great and his staff always helpful. Only one night stay in Presbyerian Matthews and the best night nurse I have ever had ( Kim). Very little pain and so far so good. Dr Pirrello is a perfectionist. I was supposed to be operated at 10:15 but he had a case before mine that was difficult. Instead of rushing the case he postponed mine to about 12:30. I was back at the room around 2:00 and walking the halls within the hour. He has done over 2000 sleeves. He did 29 in December 2012. I would highly recommend him and Presbyterian Matthews.

I am using the nutritionist in Concord at CMC NE since it is closer to me. Have my 2 week followup scheduled for 1/23 with Ruth Wadsworth.

Just woke up and the gas pains continue. Hope gas-x works well today. I guess I will need to do my 60 minutes of walking but it is supposed to be a warm day. Good luck with your journey. PS. Dr Pirrillo said he started the flu on Dec 21 and barely was able to finish his second case and had to cancel his third surgery. I guess you was one of the first two he did that day. Guess that didn't hurt his performance. Sounds like you are doing great.

Yes, I was the second that day at 9:30 I was told he had to cancel the one right after mine , because he got sick! Wow I'm so glad I wasn't that person, after prepping for that and all so I guess it's a small miracle he was able to finish mine, I'm so glad though its a 3 1/2 hour drive for me! God works in mysterious ways!

I used Dr V in Charlotte. He was great! I'm 4 weeks post op sleeve and I had a great surgery. I was in for one day. No complications. The office staff were very helpful all along the way. I couldn't have had a better experience!

Dr. V as in Villanueva? Because he's my doctor and I was wondering how things went and does he send you home with a drain. My surgery is set for feb 6th. I'm so nervous

My surgeon is Dr. Enochs in Cary, NC. Bariatric specialists of NC and they seem to be a really good office. They got everything through insurance and the doctor is good at answering all of my questions.

Dr Enoch is at the same office as mine! I used Dr Jon Michael Bruce. That office is amazing - Bariactric Specialists of NC are wonderful. Everyone has been very helpful. I enjoyed Patrick (nutritionist).

I have an appointment in two weeks - I look forward to each visit. Dr Enoch is usually about 2 hours late though due to spending so much time with each patient.... Dr Bruce is usually on time - due to my lifestyle, I had to go with the easier of the two... :D

I am also looking into North Carolina surgeons. I live in the triangle area and I think I will have to travel to Charlotte. From what I've read on the message boards' date=' Voellinger is the way to go. I believe there are two others but I can't recall their names at the moment. However I don't think they don't have as much experience (possibly why I didn't bother to commit them to memory). According to ObesityHelp, Voellinger has the most years of experience and has done the most VSG's in the area. If you come across another experience surgeon please pass the info! Thanks and good luck![/quote']

I'm using Dr. Tim Ferrell at UNC.

I was sleeved on May 25th, 2012 by Dr. Roc Bauman in Concord, NC (he is in practice with Dr Villeneuva). He was a general surgeon before years before he specialized in bariatric surgery. I really like him and the staff at his office! The hospital that he admits to is CMC-Northeast. Their staff and nurses are second to none! I was admitted for two days and never had any complications! One really helpful thing he requires is that you see a nutritionist once a month or a year following surgery! I started out at 229lbs and am currently at 146lbs! Goal is 135!! I would highly recommend Dr. Bauman!

Has anyone had any experience with Dr. Yoo out of Duke Bariatric? They're a "center of excellence" and are (obviously) closely tied with Duke Health. My surgery's the 18th but so far has had an awesome experience with them. I'm just starting to get a bit nervous about the actual surgical part! lol

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
