Hello, I just found this Forum on the Sleeve Talk website and was wondering if there were any fellow Canadians out there. I am waiting for my first appointment Nov 16th in Victoria with Dr Amson. I want to have the VSG and hopefully asap. The wait is about three years, from what I've been told, and unless I can find 15,000 dollars somewhere I'll be waiting it out LoL. hi eloquentblue, i'm planning on getting sleeved and will probably go to PSSC due to location/reputation but my concern is still the high cost. i noticed that you said you were able to write off a majority of the $22000. how did you do that? also, how far did it take to drive to edmonds? i live in maple ridge, bc

I am in Montreal, and as you all know, us Quebecers like to be different from the rest of the country...

Government will not pay for out of province/out of country surgeries..

Sleeved June 23, 2010 with Dr. Almanza in Mexico! Awesome experience. My mom watched the entire surgery on the monitor, and was very impressed! If you accept that you are having surgery in a different country and DON'T expect the same treatment you get here in Canada... I think you will be impressed!

Great experience, no leaks, or issues, and I am now on the losing side! Down 10 lbs since surgery so far

Hi All - I live in Brooks, Alberta. I originally had a lapband in July 2007 and a revision to a VSG in Sept 2009. Make sure that you get your out of country doctor to fill out a form for you that you can get from the Alberta Health Care website - submit it and your detailed receipt to Alberta Health Care - it takes about 12 weeks but the will reimburse you some of your expenses. I received $1280.00 for my lapband and $1926.00 for my revision - the rest of the expenses can be claimed on your income tax under medical expenses.
