A newbie and I'm sooo nervous

Recommended Posts

I have finally bitten the bullet and have booked into the Obesity Surgery centre on the Gold Coast.

I have 2 weeks before my first appointments with the nurse and dietician and I'm so nervous and so embarrassed about having to finally admit that I have this "big" problem that I can't fix myself.

Did anyone else feel like this?

Was anyone else so nervous before their surgery that they just felt like canceling their appointments?

Help!:D

Hi JoJo,

Your feelings are perfectly normal. I remember feeling excited that there was help but embarassed and scared at the same time. The excited feeling got me thru it thank God :D

Don't cancel 1 appointment because this will really throw you back.. press on!!!

Hugs and Good Luck !!!

JoJo, Don't you dare be embrassed. Look at all the support you have on this board.I am 62 and so wish we had a tool like the band many years ago. I am almost a month out and am doing great. Yes I was a little nervous after I got my surgery date call but then it turned into excitment.

You hang in there and I promise you won't regret it.:D

Jojo I felt like that about my plastics and cancelled the first appointments I had... Once I actually went to the next appointment I was like - what was I so scared of? My band & plastics are the best things i've ever done for myself. Alcholics get help, smokers get help, why not obese people? We have a food addiction and shouldn't be ashamed about getting help also.

Good luck for your appointment, it won't be nearly as scarey as it seems at first :)

Welcome to LBT, Jojo. You are among friends here. Friends who have dealt with, or are just in the middle of dealing with, the same mixture of emotions that you are having. The fear of the unknown is very powerful. But the good news is, you've found a place where many have gone before you and many are there with you now. Ask lots of questions and keep sharing your feelings. You will learn so much before you're even banded - and THAT will help lessen those fears.

Congratulations on making the choice to take back control of your life! Keep us posted on the progress of your journey! :clap2:

It would be a little concerning if you weren't nervous. :)

Thanks for all the replies and support. I feel alot better knowing there are lots of people like me. I think my biggest problem is I've always been very independent and am a little annoyed that I haven't been able to fix this weight problem myself.

I just have to learn to swallow my pride and realise it's not such a bad thing to ask for help sometimes.

I'm sure all your words of encouragement will make me stronger.

Thanks all.

:)

Hi i was so nervous while i waited to be took in for my surgery. I laid on the operating table petrified. If i hadn't have had a backless surgical gown and no undies on i would have left. I thought about all the things i would be able to do with my life and my family once i had the procedure done. Luckily they came and got me for surgery soon after. Even though its hard and a challenge and sometimes things don't always go as they should i consider the surgery the most positive thing i have done for myself. GOOD LUCK

I was nervous too.....I'm really good at taking it off but unsuccessful at keeping it off and have failed at that so many times.....now I'm nervous that it will happen and not only will I put it back on but be out $16,000 and have to suffer the embarassment of yet another failure.

But....I'll do what it takes and try my best to prevent that from happening. I think the nervousness is settling down and the excitement is taking over, I can't wait..........Jun 8th.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
