Hey ques.

This is not a complaining post either. I have significantly decreased in the amount of weight I've lost since starting mushed foods. In 10 days I've lost a solid 1lb, but depending on the day it'll be 2. I haven't been working out as much as I should but I have gone back to work. 3 12hr days a week in a busy ER.

My typical day is as follows

Breakfast

An egg and a turkey sausage with 1tbsp of hollandaise sauce

lunch

2-3oz of ground turkey with taco seasoning with low fat shredded cheese and 3/4 tbsp of light sour cream

dinner

2-3 oz of stuffed peppers (lean ground sirloin) with less than 1/4 of a green pepper and about 1/2 cup of the Tomato Soup it was cooked in. NO RICE

No pop no Snacks. This is all I'm hungry for. But my weight loss went from 5 a week to 1-2lbs in 10 days. Don't get me wrong I am very happy in losing, just wondering what I'm doing wrong.

Sam

if you are losing, then what is the issue?

there is no problem....you lose quicker on liquid diets...you cant expect to lose 5 pounds a week all the time..its a journey, a process.. accept that a loss is a loss is a loss.....if you lose inches, you are losing weight..please accept that you are doing well....slow and steady weight loss is more likely to stay off..... :)

1-2 lbs per week is average. It's not realistic to expect to lose 5 lbs per week. I would suggest you start counting calories. This will help when you start getting hungry. Though it happens for some, the feeling right after surgery doesn't last and you'll need to get fills to reach that again.

Please remember how long it took you to put the weight on and use that to get a realistic idea of how long it will take to reach goal. If I can keep it up, I should reach goal ~16 months after surgery. But from the beginning I've given myself two years. I want to be healthy more than I want to be skinny.

Best of luck on your journey.

#1 I know your meals sound just fine and cals presumably low, but I would love to see the caloric breakdown.

#2 You admitted you were less active. Remember, wl= calories in - calories burned. If your calories in is constant and you decreased cals burned than expect less wl or even a gain.

#3 Being back to work as an RN can be taxing. Fatigue unto itself burns calories. Don't overlook the possibility you may indeed be more active than you realize and require more calories. Again, back to #1 what are you currently intaking?

With the above info we can better discern which correction is more likely necessary.

However, I do want to iterate that losing more than 2 lbs per week is not the goal. I always tell people that setting sensible expectations makes this journey more rewarding. Setting yourself up with insensible goals that cannot be maintained will only reinforce feelings of failure.

SLOW and steady!

First of all you are doing great and are on the right track so keep it up! Second of all, try tracking calories for a few days to see where you are at. I use myfitnesspal.com and it's awesome!

The first point I want to make is that you are just post op if you are just starting mushies. It takes your body some time to adjust to such a change in diet especially if you did that dreadful pre op diet. Also, I recommend counting calories and Protein grams. I strive for 50-60 and that seems to work just fine for me. You may not be getting enough calories that your body needs. You can get a calorie goal by trial and error and finding what works for you or talking to your nutritionist who helped you with the lap band process.

Now as far as weight loss goes. I understand your frustration. I am 24 weeks post op and have lost 70 pounds. I did however start with a fairly high BMI so I can say i did to expect to lose more in the beginning and its what im finding. I do have to work hard though. I work out at least 5 days a week and I am fairly diligent about tracking my calories on my fitness pal. I will play the devils advocate here and say im darn thankful im losing more than 1-2 lbs a week. I have a long way to go and my motivation would probably be less if I wasn't doing as well as I was. Its a lifestyle change though and making that transition in your mind takes time for long term success. I will also say I have had several weeks where I think I do so well and I work out every day and i weigh in at the end of the week and im only one pound down. I can have a fairly good week the next week but not as good as the previous one and be down 5 lbs the next. It will come. It is a process. Letting your body catch up to your new way of living takes time. Some people dont lose any weight until they get a fill. It just depends.

Good luck to you,

Brittany

Thank you all.

I am SO GRATEFUL I've lost 1-2 this week. I just wanted to make sure that's ok.

I can probably guarantee I am grossly under cals. I take it at most 800 a day which is a gross over estimate. I don't get anywhere close to the 50-60g of Protein with what I'm eating.

My md doesn't want me drinking Protein shakes because they are "liquid calories". Also my nutritionist first want me focusing on cal right now since I'm grossly below. She said to more focus on that when I'm eating and have adjusted post op. I try so hard to eat more Protein but I'm full and do not want to push it. So I stop when I'm "done" and not "full".

The process begins. This months goal, focus a million x's more on working out beyond work hustle and bustle and my volleyball league.

It's a marathon and I'm excited for it.

1-2 pounds per week is good. I was 6 months in when I slowed to 1 and did that for a couple of months, but have picked up to 2 now. Nearly to the goal only 16 pounds to go. Have never been this close in my life of dieting. Then I have to learn to maintain. That will be an all new journey down Bandster Lane for me. Usually maintain for about 3 hours before gaining starts.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
