June 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

I haven't posted for a long time, even tho I read everyones posts. I felt like I was too negative. I had a hard time, always sliming, pb'ing, not losing, having to run to throw up more often than not. Two weeks ago, I thought I was having a heart attack. I laid on my bed, thinking I was going to die. I finally called 911 - and they seemed to agree - taking me to the er, where I spent 4 days in pain, throwing up, not sleeping. The cardio unit was not savy about the band. After an upper GI, they saw I had a hernia, and contacted my lapband surgeon (he's 2 hours away). He had me transported to another hospital, where they did emergency surgery to repair the hyatel hernia, and he removed the band. So, my ride is over. I feel full of failure, fear of what the costs will end up being, depressed, and angry. No need to reply to this, as I'm not going to continue reading the posts. I wish you all well, and hope your health will be good as you continue your journey. Be careful ~ take good care.

Randi............Oh my gosh! I hope you do come back and continue to post. Sounds like you will need support now more than ever. I am so sorry to hear about what has happened to you. Can you tell us more? Were you overfilled? Do they know what caused the hernia? How much had you lost when this happened? How are you feeling now? Are you able to eat again?

Please keep us updated on your progress. We want to help you if there's anyway we can. This site is for people who understand the good and bad of the band and you sure do understand more than most of us.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and I'd love to hear from you.

Randi so sorry to hear your news. Please take care of you. That is what's the most important. Did they tell you won't ever be able to have the band replaced? I know some have the hernias repaired as part of their lapband surgery. Did it do damage.

The good news is you now know why you were suffering. You are not a failure. Your body was the cause of the pain, not you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.

Tomorrow will be the 7th day since fill. So far so good. I'm still hungry, but I'm taking it slow. I'm still on mushies mostly trying to keep stomach from swelling. I hope this hunger is not a symptom of something else. The last weeks I've been really, really, hungry.

Went to curves 4 times last week. Goal this week is to make it 5. I'm a little sore, but not bad. I'll just do it. It's got to be helping.

Most people should be back to work this week after spring break. It was really boring without everyone. Looking forward to a busy week. Hope everyone is doing well.

Hey June crew, I know I've been mia for awhile. Lots of stuff going on in my life so it's been hard to find time for everything. I see some of you are going to Curves and I just wanted to say it really worked wonders for me. I posted some new pics today...please check them out. I don't want to come on here to brag about my weight loss, I just really hope to inspire and share what works for me. You can see my pics by doing a search by housecatgirl.

Great to hear from you Laura! Don't be a stranger! I'm up and down lately, but determined to be disciplined. I can't afford a fill until the end of the month, so I'm getting by on sheer willpower(of which I have little!)

hey ya'll!!!

well, i had to have all of my fill removed this morning. i started feeling bad thursday with stomach cramps and back pain. it got better friday...i was able to eat lunch, but later on that night i started having more cramps and nausea. same thing lasted over the weekend. i felt something might be wrong when i can feel my spit going down and the only way to get relief was to throw up. well, i made an appt this am for an unfill and to check the band. band still in place, but position was changed alittle. xray looked different than december's xray. she said i was too tight and until this past thursday i had no problems. so, the tech took all of the saline out and i felt so much better. drank some more barium and my band looked like it did in december. i have to go back in two weeks to get another xray. you better believe i'll be playing it safe and taking care of myself.

hope everyone is doing well!!

DId you go to surgicenter or to Dr. Spivak's office? There's something going on that both spivak and spiegel are doing all their own fills, etc. now. We can still go to the surgicenter, but only can be filled with spiegel. I wonder if they had too many slips, overfills, etc. Spiegel just said to me he gave them a year and they couldn't get it right so he's doing all his patients fills. Take it easy and hopefully you can get filled again. It does make you wonder what is going on since you were OK then not. Sounds like a slip.

Just got back from curves. I'm starting the week off well. I called and got my next fill appt. It will be after Easter. He was going away for a week and I didn't want to take the chance I would get into trouble and then it would be a complete unfill. I guess I'll just take it a little slower than I planned. So far this fill is good, but still way too hungry and can eat way too much.

Hope everyone else is doing well. Laura I saw your pictures everywhere. :( You are really looking great. Job well done!!!!

Old habits die hard. One week in and I have resorted to soft foods again. Everything else hurts. Even fish hurts now. How long do you think I need to give it before I go for an unfill?

When it happens to me I really try to do liquids for 2-3 days then ease back in. I found myself going for a fill too soon and then I'd be too lose and go get filled again. If you can't get liquid down it's definately time for an unfill.

Ok guys I have a really strange phenomenom (sp?) going on with my band, I can eat meat just fine, but I cannot eat yogurt, mashed pot. , or soft foods. Now is that weird or what?? Even in the evening. But I haven't had a problem with any meats so I can't be overfilled. This is so weird!!!!

Hi all! Well I had my second fill on Thursday of .6 to replace my total unfill of 1cc (1st fill recieved 10/25/06) on Feb. 8th due to a suspected slippage( Thank God it was nothing).

On Feb. 8th I was 233 and on Thursday the Nurse ANP weighed me at 240.

She told me to do liquids over the weekend and then gradually move to mushies and then solids as I feel comfortable. She also asked me to purchase 2 weeks worth of Optifast to get me back on track if I was interested. They use this for the preop diet before surgery and I had to use this for two weeks before surgery .

Well I have been peeing and pooping alot and drinking my Water.< /span>

Yesterday and today I weighted myself and I found a new lower number so Iam going to claim it........255---I LOST 5 POUNDS! Iam 2 away from the Feb. 8th number and 55 pounds down! Iam back on track!

This has been a horrible weekend here in New York>>>>

Friday we had a horrible Ice Storm and here where Iam in the North East Bronx we recieved 4-5 inches of ice/snow. You really could not shovel it with out a ice pick first to break the ice. Its still pretty dangerous in some areas since now its melting since its 45 degrees.

Those of you in hot weather I wish I was there!

But --- I love my four seasons!

Yesterday I had to register my 4 1/2 year old son for kindergarden and it was so dam crazy! You get there as early as 630-7am to get a number since they only register 14 kids a day for kindergarden starting March 19th. We got there early and we recieved number 11 out of 14! They then tell you come back at 9 am but they do not tell you that they only have two people doing the registering and that they only take two parents with the child at a time. You also have 6 pages of papers to fill out and its take a half hour.

We were not called until 1pm and were there from 9am thats the New York City Public School System for you ( my son has to go to public school to recieve his services for his speech delay and ocupational therapy).

So thats how my weekend and past two days have been !:phanvan

I hope everyone else is doing well!

Lisa

Regina.........if you get answers to your quandries, please let me know. I too have been having weird things going on with the band. Some on here have thought that it might be related to spring allergies. I don't know but I know each day is a new adventure. I feel like I am getting tighter everyday but still nothing stops the junk food. I just attempted a soft egg and I am sitting here trying to ignore the fact that I am about to pb. I can eat a bag of chips or popcorn or cashews without even giving it a thought.

I am not losing but for now since I'm eating nothing but junk I guess I should be thankful.

Hello,

Has anyone experienced "movement" feelings under your rib where the port was placed? Suddenly I feel "something" that feels like it gets caught for a moment and then goes away under my left rib. Kind of like a baby's elbow (not as strong) or foot moving when you are pregnant. I'm wondering if it could be the port tibe getting caught.

Thanks!

Cheryl

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
