June 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

I guess there is one good thing and that we all agree that there are some strange things going on with our bands.

It is very hard for me to drink coffee and have my slimfast in the morning. But look out for the night time, I can eat everything and sometimes I do. And than several days later I cannot eat ice cream without having a sick feeling. BUT, I can eat chips and popcorn. There has to be a answer for this.

I am going to my first group meeting tonight. I hope that I can learn what is going on. One thing I think is happeing is that we are a little unsure as to how we should be feeling and that every little something that we feel we start to worry.

Suzanne.

Well, odd things here too. I drank a shake this morning and it felt "stuck", then for lunch I took two bites of Soup and it got stuck. Felt light headed and had to sit down at 2 oclock in class, so I thought it might be my sugar, so I broke out my "emergency" apple sauce, took one bite and bang... I was stuck. (Most horrible feeling being stuck while in class.) But, no body noticed. Then after school I went and had my taxes done, came home and tried some soup again, and it went down fine.

Well, we did have a new moon on the 19th, and time changed for us in TX this past week. Or, maybe the polar caps melting has changed the gravitational pull of the tides and our bands are acting up because of it. (I watch too many movies.) Or, maybe this is how it is suppose to be... confusing.

There has to be reasons why so many of us are experiencing these weird events with our bands. Has anyone spoken with their doctor or someone "knowledgeable" about our collective problems?

Everyday is worse for me. Yesterday (all day) I had three bites of a mexican dish that I have always been able to eat and bammmm! I did manage to avoid most junk food. I had a bowl of ice cream and my Protein Drinks. I haven't tried anything yet today except coffee.< /p>

Each day is a new adventure. Since our "thoughts become things" then I refuse to think about these problems today. I am going to focus on my new healthier, thinner body and just let the band do it's thing.

Have a great day everyone!

I did talk to my doctor and he said the reason for me not to be able to eat yogurt and such is because it is cold. As far as like mashed potatoes etc, that when you are filled properly that stuff will not go down well either. Thats why they tell us when we are on regular foods to stay away from rice, potatoes etc. I can eat meat fine, so I guess I should just stick with that. But I dont eat Breakfast anymore, i just can't. So I guess all my weirdness right now, is just the proper fill amount that I haven't expierenced before. Now if I could just STOP drinking starbucks carmel latte every morning I would probably be dropping faster, but since I don't have breakfast I started substituting and that's not good!!!

Have a great day everyone!

Having a great week visiting with DS's in town. I've had lots of pb's lately too. I'm thinking allergies. I'm also thinking liquids as much as possible.

Regina, Thanks for that update. I get stuck on applesauce and other softies. Maybe we should rename some mushies "stickies".

Hi everybody,

I have posted in quite awhile but I am reading with interest all the band issues! I am with you all, too.

I am seeing my doctor in the morning because I've developed some mighty nasty reflux and am praying that there is no pouch dilation or slippage. I haven't had a fill since last September and I really don't think I'm too tight since I can eat and drink just fine. I just seem tighter!

Oh and Pinky - when I called the doc's office last week about this reflux, they said LOTS of people are having issues with allergies and sinus drainage which is making the bands slam shut. I haven't noticed any extra drainage but I guess it could happen.

I'm thinking planets are misaligning somewhere to throw us all in this tizzy.

So sorry everyone is having such issues. I, however, can eat house and home right now. I'm starting solids tonight so we'll see. I have had some solids, but its meat tonight. I don't think this fill did anything so I've scheduled another one on the 10th. That will put me at a fill level I've never been. I'm only going to let him give me .2

We heard last night at our support meeting that our doctor has decided we should lose all our weight in the first year instead of two. I think they are hyping such great results that they want to attract more people to the lapband. I'm afraid that is going to lead to aggressive fills and more PBs, slips, and dialation.

For the most part, except for times after a fill, I haven't experienced these daily problems others have. I've had a reasonably easy time of it, while losing 54 lbs. I would have liked to been further down this road, but I'm still content. I wouldn't be this far without the band.

There are so many of you know near or at goal. I'm so proud of your success. I look at the pictures and its just amazing what has been accomplished.

We're almost at our 1 year anniversary. What a journey this is. Along the way I've had the privledge to meet some really neat people, in person and in hyperspace. Let's pat ourselves on the back and continue on. We have some more road to travel.

or try something warm. new rule from doc - first bite chew 20 times, get up and walk away for 1 minute. second bite, do the same thing. 3rd bite and after 20-20, chew 20, wait 20 seconds. Maybe you are having trouble with the first couple of bites and you're not used to that.

Let's don't forget first bite syndrome. It's what's happening to me now. Finally recognized it last night. ONe bite and I'm golf balling. Have to drink hot tea and wait 15 minutes before I can eat and then it's ok.

Hey guys there is something to what barb's doc is saying, I find things go down soooo much better if I don't site and eat, I leave my plate in the kitchen and take a bite and walk around doing things and chew the heck out of it. Are schedules are so busy we dont have many family sit down meals anyway. But it keps me eating slower. Poodles, I know how hard it is for you to get into the fill cnter with school, so this time works on finding things that work, wine, eating much slower etc.

But if you need it, you need it ,if things still aren't working.

I guess I have about two cents worth on this subject too *LOL*

I started keeping a spread sheet in August of last year of four different things to see if there's any trends: 1. ease of eating in the morning 2. ease of the first bite without drinking something warm first 3. ease of eating without taking allegra, and 4.ease of eating chicken (that last one is because I am never consistent on whether I can eat it or not).

This is what I've found (trends): 1. I have a difficult time eating much in the morning, at all times. 2. I get first bite syndrome, at all meals, and no matter what time of day. Drinking something warm first almost always helps. 3. I take allegra when I'm symptomatic of allergies, and the days I don't take it I have a much harder time eating. The days I do take it makes everything seem so much easier. 4. I have a very hard time eating chicken the few days before and days of my time of month.

Just some info, not sure if it's applicable to you guys, but it's what I've found to be true for me.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
