June 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

Hello all. Just wanted to give an update on my progress. I did not have the RNY done. Still scared to death of it. But, I am in the process of getting the Duodenal Switch approved. Had an EGD last week which showed a slip and a hernia. Still don't have a fill and have maintained my pre surgery weight.

Three years and still hover around the same 10 lb mark.

If the DS is not approved, I will be forced to either take out the band and have nothing, or revise to RNY. Please keep your fingers crossed for me to be approved for the DS.

If you are having issues and are looking into a revision, please read the studies on DS vs. RNY. The website dsfacts.com has some wonderful information. I like the DS because you don't have regain 2 years out. You still have to take your Vitamins like the RNY'ers, but with greater freedom of food choices and a better long term success rate.

Will let you know how I do WHEN I get it. Hope, Hope!

Yes, Ma'am! I am in DS heaven!

I don't get ravinously hungry, I can eat without pain... any time of day. I can cheat if I want to (sugar) with no real issues. (Sugar does cause gas.) And, I eat every 3 hours or so when I can. May only be a boiled egg, but I can swallow it quick if I need to!

I am very thankful for my band in a lot of ways. It taught me to slow down, chew chew chew, and be conscience of what I eat. But, I wish I would have had the DS in the first place.

My DS surgery was in November 09. I have lost 82 lbs in 6 months. My labwork is good (need to increase vit D and protein), totally off diabetes meds, and I am off all but one of my blood pressure meds. Down from a Catherines size 12 to size 5. Feeling sassy!

I have posted in the "other surgeries" threads here, but mostly stay on OH since I am part of the Dark Side now.

I still come over and read some. Miss the people here... especially Jack. I love Jack!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Thanks for checking in with us SoCalGal! I am well. I just went through a period of swelling and being completely restricted. Wasn't able to eat anything for several days. No worries though - just waited it out and now I'm fine. It was good for a few pounds of weight loss as well, so I'm not complaining. I'm down to 154lbs - lookin good and feelin GREAT! The band was the best decision I've made in my life in a long, long time.

Well, tomorrow will be my four year bandiversary. Seems to me that I have always been restricted. I am down 90 from surgery date. I still have occasional issues but that is why I had the band in the first place...something to remind me that I am eating too much, too fast or just the wrong stuff. I have never had any regrets about this procedure. It's the best thing I have done for my overall health. All of my labs are near normal range, also blood pressure, joint pains are pretty much gone (all that extra weight was taking it's toll on the joints), and I just feel better in general. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis over a year ago and I take meds for that but that is not weight related.

My husband passed away in November '08 and after almost a year of struggling with his business, I closed up shop and moved "home" to WV. It has been good to be back near family. My life here is so different than it was in Houston and I'm not sure this is my last stop but it is the right stop for this point in my life.

I'm looking forward to posts from all you old Junebees! Let's hear from all of you. It was good to see that Poodles finally found her answer. We all have to do whatever it is we have to do for ourselves.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
