I have been gaining weight and I was wondering if anyone else went through this and if so, what did you do to get back on track? I have a fill appointment on the 9th and plan on getting xray to make sure i didn't expand.

January 2012 and I do but not like I should. I went to the Dr in April and they didn't give me a fill even though I was gaining then because they felt I was tight enough but im more hungry much sooner than I should be and I can eat more than before. I did have a expanded esophagus and went on liquids and it went back to normal but I feel as if my food is going through to fast I have a 10cc band with about 6.5cc fill

If I were you, I'd start tracking your calories all the time. It's the only way you can be sure you're not going over your daily calorie allowance.

If your doctor says you're tight enough, I'd take a step back and try to evaluate how you're feeling. For instance, are you truly hungry or is it head hunger? How long can you go without physical hunger?

Also keep food can't go through the band too fast. It passes through in about a minute and should never be sitting above it digesting. If it doesn't pass through in a minute or less, you run a risk of pouch dilation and erosion.

Remember, the band isn't supposed to physically stop you from eating and if you're eating until you're full you're likely eating too much. The band is there to keep you satisfied on less food for longer periods of time. Here's a link I think may help too: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

If you've had some esophagus "issues" this means you've been too tight before, remember the band is a tool, I know it can be tough losing weight with the band, but we can't rely heavily on the band to do all the work, without causing complications. It's a 50/50 deal.

First you have to make sure you are eating dense Proteins to promote satiety, sliders and junk will pass right through the band and if you are too tight, you will always be hungry because you will not eat enough to stay satiated for 4-5 hours between meals.

Remember you have to do your part too, having restriction is only a small part of weight loss and success. You have to have a plan and stick to it, have a daily exercise regimen that you can stick with, count your calories of everything you put in your mouth, drink plenty of Water, sometimes thirst can mimic hunger.

Also acid reflux can mimic hunger too, so if you have heartburn or reflux you may need to start a PPI like Prevacid.

If you get your band filled again, remember it's not all about restriction, you only want enough saline to dim your hunger and not stop you from eating, the band is not designed to do that, it's designed to help you stop eating and pull back from the table.

Also measure your food, think of a pixie cup, only eat no more than that per meal or 4oz.

You can do this! Good luck.

Hello,

I can relate. I have had the same issue. I work out 5 times a week, ran 10 miles yesterday and spin three times a week for an hour. I am stuck on 205 lbs and seem more hungry. I'm going in for another fill this Tuesday 27 August. I want to get under 200 lbs. badly. I am friustrated. Have had my band for 4 years and kept off 40 lbs. I am 49 and want to weigh 185-190 lbs.

Ok I actually think you more than anyone on this thread need to start counting calories. Exercise makes you hungry, and I know of too many people who exercise a lot, who then eat back their exercise calories and more because they're always hungry.

Also all calories are not created equal. 200 calories of hard Protein will keep you fuller for longer, and it will assist in the building of muscle. 200 calories of refined sugar is pretty much going to go straight into building fat.

Understanding the composition of your food is super important to weight loss and general health. My suggestion is you start by journalling all your food, every single mouthful, for a few weeks and see where you're at after that.

Congrats on the weight loss. You will get to your goal. Ive had mine for a little over a year and a half and I lost 50 but ended up gaining 33 pounds ...eh.....but I won't let that get me down, but its so frustrating.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
