Why does it hurt to eat in the mornings?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Does anyone have this issue when you first eat in the morning it hurts? I hate mornings because when I eat I feel like I am swallowing a golf ball. Could this mean that I am to tight? It does ease up as the day gets going but it takes me forever to eat Breakfast in the mornings. I am just not sure what to do.

Help!

I have read a lot of post about people being tighter in the morning I don't know so much about hurting, but I do know it is not uncommon to be tight in the morning. Most people will drink something hot first thing in the morning to help loosen up and also maybe not eat till later in the day. You could try that, but you also may want to talk to your Dr. about the pain I don't think that is normal. You may be a wee to tight.

I'm like that, too. I can't eat a thing and sometimes it's hard to even choke down a Protein shake. I deal with it by having a cup of coffee and a Protein shot, then I have something to eat after 12 noon. I think I'm a bit tight, too but I don't want an unfill because the weight is coming off well and I don't seem to have any other adverse effects.

I will not likely get another fill on my next appointment though. That would be asking for serious trouble.

I've wondered this too and I wonder if it doesn't have something to do with dehydrating while we sleep? Just a thought but it is really common. I start out the day very tight and by evening I'm much looser. I usually drink Decaf coffee all morning until lunch time.

I heard somewhere that when you sleep, all the Fluid in your band collects on one side, so when you stand up it squeezes you more tightly. It takes a few hours for it to then move back around equally...

I usually have a large coffee in the morning, a chunky Soup for lunch and then a normal dinner...

Yep, you have to remember you just went probably 8 hrs without food/drink. Cells are dehydrated causing slightly tighter restriction. Need food/drink to make it all lax again. Hot Drinks help, and maybe delay your actual breakfast.

I also have heard that people are tighter different times of the day so I guess it depends on our band and all our bodies are diffrent mine is also tight in the morninig so I can only do Protein Shakes or eggs , then I have to wait till later on in the day to have my dinner I can have just a Protein Bar to satisifie me tho untill dinner so diffrent ties for us I guess.

I am also tighter in the morning. I asked my bariatric nurse about it and she said sometimes there is a buildup of mucous which makes you feel a little tighter. She suggested a hot drink to start the day. I have coffee then a Protein Drink for breakfast. I can't even eat yogurt for breakfast, too tight. But then around lunchtime I'm fine. I don't want to skip breakfast because we need Protein so the drink works for me!

It's very common for people to feel tight in the morning. Sometimes, I do as well. The nurse explained that when you wake up, and your fingers and feet feel tight and swollen, it happens inside your body as well. When you swell inside, the band tightens because of the swelling underneath it.

All these changes are a weird ride, huh? I've had some weird stuff lately, aside from morning tightness. The one that is the most bothersome, is the acid reflux. I really need to get that one under control. My surgeon is going to do a TNE, to see if there is any ulceration. Not looking forward to that!

Seems like I have always been tighter in the morning.

What seems to work best for me it to have a cup of coffee and a Protein shake for Breakfast.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
