Any other September 2013 bandsters?

I know it's early, but wondering if there's any one else getting ready to get banded in September? I have one more Ins required weigh in Aug 19 then my paperwork gets submitted for approval!

I was already told I'm on the schedule for September 27! Fingers crossed!

I guess what I should have asked is how is eating and not drinking going? The whole not drinking while eating and waiting to drink is tough. Had some chili tonight and it was super spicy. Had to to just suck it up.

I find it not to hard. Unless we are out to eat and then it's much more difficult.

I had practiced not drinking while I was eating before my pre op diet and I did fine as long as I was not at a restaurant. My mom took me out for my birthday and I had to have a tea with my tenderloin and fries. Glad my liquid diet started the next day so the weight didn't have time to settle in from that lunch. I just started the stage of my diet where it is advised not to drink and eat at the same time. I drink a cup or tea or have a protein shake first thing in the morning then I try to have breakfast about an hour later. An hour after breakfast I either have more hot tea or a v-fusion. V- Fusions are my favorite way to get my fruits and veggies in right now. Baby food is nasty.

Im 14 days post op, and i just recently started feeling the tightness again where my band is located, sort of feels like acid reflux, gas. thought it would go away but its constant and bothering me and i Cant fall asleep. Any idea why?

No clue, but I would contact your doctor. Let us know what he says!

That has been hard for me ! I drink like a fish...I have to make myself check the time and keep track of it...and after I eat I do take a very small sip to wash my mouth out but that's it

Tuna definitely helped today! I boiled some eggs last night and mixed that in with the tuna with 1 tbl sp Light mayo and 1 tsp sweet relish. It totals 233 calories, and 29 gm protein.

I ate at 12:30. It is now 3pm and I am still full. Let's hope it lasts another couple hrs...

My doctor says the gasX or other over-the-counter gas meds will not really help since the gas is not running through your intestinal track but is literally in between your organs. The only real way to deal with it is the heating pad' date=' pain meds, and walk, walk, walk. I wish I had better news...sorry[/quote']

That is what I thought!! But for me belly gas and pressure (in my stomach below the band) has been the worst part! It has to go somewhere and so intestinal gas is just part of the deal. For that, gasx does help.

The gas pain was the worst part for me ! I had so much pressure in my stomach and it was really bad under my ribs on the left side....I use the gas strips but it never helped...my nurse said to try papaya enzymes...they said it was a miracle but I was never able to find any and two days after that it just finally left...hope u guys feel better !

How are you doing?

I am a BOB (Band over bypass---Had gastric bypass in March of 2008). Doing pretty good. I had a few hiccups in the beginning. I had left shoulder pain from NERVE irritation not gas. It was painful. I had it until almost three weeks out, I thought it would never end and then it just went away one day. Hoping it stays that way. I also had Acid Reflux (which I rarely ever had prior t the band). Turns out, there was a little fluid they forgot to remove from my band during surgery. Only 0.8 cc but enough to cause the acid reflux while I was still in the swelling stage. I have been doing WELL since then :). This is my first week of solids. This is ALSO my first week of no weight loss. I'm wondering if its b/c its the actual weight of the food since liquids and pureed foods are readily absorbed and eliminated. Who knows. Staying within calorie range of 1,000-1,200. For five weeks (two weeks before surgery and three weeks after) I was only eating b/w 300-800 calories. So that may also be why I stayed the same b/c my calories were low. My appetite returned toward the the end of week 3. My first fill is October 14th!

You and I are on the same schedule. I was banded on 9/13. My first fill is 10/14. I'm only consuming around 750-800 per day. I can't get higher than that because I'm not hungry. Nervous about getting a fill because I'm not that hungry. I've lost 21 pounds - so I guess I'm doing ok.

Are you nervous about the first fill? I've read everyone's comments on them and I know I'll be ok, but I really don't know what to expect.

I'm self pay - so the first 2 fills are free so I'm not sure. I will talk to dr about everything.

Glad we are twins ;-).

I am not too nervous for the fill b/c I had an UNFILL about 10 days ago and I kind of feel like I know what to expect.

When they primed my 14 CC band, they meant to remove all of the Fluid in it but accidentally left a little bit in, which happens from time to time. Some surgeons even leave fluid in the band during surgery.

I feel lucky in that I was never hungry the first three weeks. Once they removed the 0.8 cc's I DID feel a difference and my appetite returned---although not as strong. This week I've hit 1,000 cals. every day. If I'm not hungry, I add a scoop of Protein to my Water for the extra protein and the extra 100 calories to get me there.

My nurse told me to just do what was comfortable and listen to my body as I am healing.

When I had my unfill, I had to lay on a table and lift my legs up. The nurse felt around for the port. She cleansed the site, took a syringe with a fairly long needle and put it in. It felt like a little sting but it was not bad. It actually hurt worse when she pulled it out. I'm not sure why it was that way unless she pulled it out at a different angle or moved it around. She then put a little gauze over the port. I had one or two drops of blood. The whole thing lasted 15-30 seconds for me. I was fine after that. :) Also, if you are not hungry, you do not have to get a fill. At least I know that is usually the case. As long as you are staying satisfied for 4-5 hours and losing weight, my surgeon says you don't need a fill. Every surgeon is different, but I've read that about other bandsters as well. Don't let anyone FORCE it on you. I receive two years of aftercare included in the cost of my surgery.

Congratulations on your weight loss! :)
