Hi guys! I am set to have my banding done on July 30th at the Obesity Control Center in Mexico. I have a question about the kinds of bands they use there. If any on you have been banded there (Mexico in general) within the last 3 years or so, what kind of band did you have placed and what band options were available to you? I am really worried about having the older 4cc lap band used on me, I've heard some not very good things about the 4cc band. Also, if you have had the 4cc band what has been your experience with it?? All your help and info is greatly appreciated (:

My ex sister in law got a lapband in Mexico a few years back and ended up in iCU for a month here in the states then had a hard time finding a surgeon to remove it. Don't get "old" anything...stick with current modern medicine. Why Mexico anyway?

I am not 18 yet so I cant find a place here that will do the surgery for me without it being around $20,000 and my insurance doesn't cover bariatric surgery even if I could get it done here

I have a 4cc Allergan band done in Mexico Jan. 2013. No problems so far. Keep in mind these bands are not 'old'. They are newly manufactured and there have been modifications to correct some of the problems. Additionally, they way they are placed surgically has been improved. I am not advocating one over another but know that there could be complications with any of the bands depending on the surgeon, how your body reacts to it, too tight, not following the band rules, scarring, etc. You can do a google search to find the list of complications. Good luck.

I was banded by Dr. Ortiz in Mexico over 6 years ago. I have a 4cc allergen lapband band and have never had complications. I also have a low profile port. The wholeb experience was great.

Don't have Dr. Kelly Ramos do the surgery. I almost died from a port site infection 3 days after my surgery. I had to have the port removed in the U.S. I was off work for a month and it took months for the port site hole to close. It was packed with gauze and changed by in home care people twice a day and took months to heal. I had the port replaced about 9 months later and have not had much success. Most of the weight I lost was from being sick. I started off at about 213 and I'm 5'5 my lowest weight was about 185. There have been multiple problems including a huge hernia that was repaired and is now back again. It was a huge mistake for me. If this post helps save one person from going through what I did. Them I'm glad I could help. Please don't have surgery in Mexico!!!

My sister in law had hers done in Mex. in 2008. Im not sure who did that surgery, but she had to get it removed. complications with the band and she developed a hernia. Not sure if it caused it.. so anyway, she got her band fix about 6 months later. Then she decided she didn't want to use the band as intended... "she's lazy" and expected the band to do it all for her.... she gained all the weight she lost and packed on another 40lbs. So, She had that removed and had Gastric Bypass 9 months ago. She as already started putting weight back on. Just goes to show you ... WLS is not for everyone.

I had mine by Dr. Ariel Ortiz who I was told helped pioneer the band in the states. I've not had any complications and he put a low profile port also.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
