First oof let me say that I am 21 days post op and other than the surgical incisions I am back to normal as far as manuverability. I have yet to have a fill but that is coming up on the 17th. I still however feel a little restriction when I eat so I just keep in mind to chew chew chew everything until it's mush. I am eating a lot of different kinds of foods, but no meatsor breads. My diet has consisted of eggs, Mashed taters<<<Sorry about the Country Twang there, Fish, and other things that will be easily swallowed. All in all I am doing really good. So far I have lost 21lbs including my pre op diet and lookinf very forward to my first fill.

NOW onto my actual question. I have read numerous topics about band slippage, getting stuck and other things associated with the band, but has anyone ever heard of a band just coming unbuckled? I havent had this happen, I'm just curious, and if this did happen how would a person know if it has happened? Thanks.

Congratulations on your success! I have not ever heard of a band coming "unbuckled". I am anxious to hear from others on this one as well.

I have been on this site for almost 4 years, I have never heard of that, either! I do want to congratulate you on your weightloss and wish you best luck on your continued endeavour!

I have heard of one rare case where the band was not properly buckled. It's been about 3 years since I heard about it so I can't give you any details but it is very very rare. I was worried I had a leak at one time because I had 14cc of Fluid in my 14cc band and I could still eat a big mac. It turns out my stomach was just VERY lean (unlike the rest of me) and once I got just over 14cc in my band I was at a good restriction.

Mine did! Or.....as my surgeon thinks maybe he didn't get it completely buckled. Either way, it happens.....happened to me.

I should add, that unless you have your fills done using fluoro, you can't SEE that it has come undone....if you're like me, you'll have NO, NONE, ZERO restriction as you would imagine. Your doc may remove the saline, say "yep, its all there!, looks good" etc, etc....but in reality, they/you won't know. Thats one reason I'm so passionate about having fluoroscopy for fills. Not from what I've heard, read, guessed....but what I have experienced first hand. It's not a common thing to happen...I was the first for my surgeon in over a thousand bands installed. But doctors are human too.....

  • Thanks for the reply everyone. It's a pretty scary thought of your band coming unbuckled.

My doc told me, after I asked about this, that it has never happened to one of his patients and it would probably only happen if the band was not buckled correctly at surgery. Sounds like you are doing a great job so far. had some "mashed taters" yesterday. First in 5 months, but they were good, but will not do them too often due to carbs and calories, but a treat to look forward to on occasion.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
