24 days post op and I feel I dont need a fill

Recommended Posts

I have lost 2o pounds, my first fill appt is on May 2nd. Is it possible not to have a fill, but not need one? I am satisfied with just a cup of food, which Im on soft foods. Tilapia, Beans, Soups, egg salads with no mayo. Today I had a very small piece of omelette, two bites of potato, lunch was a slice of avocato, and a cup of white beans, and I felt too full. Is it possible not to need a fill? I forced myself to eat a few bites of a banana for dinner.< /p>

Maybe you are one of the lucky ones and won't need a fill.

Hi balbuquerque: I've been banded since January 14th and I've not had any fills yet. I find that I am satisfied on around 1,000 calories a day. I've lost 45 1/2 lbs in total which includes 17 prior to surgery. My dr. says if I'm not looking to eat between meals, and I can stay within the allotted number of calories than there's no reason to get a fill at this time. It sounds like you do not need a fill just yet but you and your dr. can discuss it and decide what is best for you.

When asking my doctor about when I get my first fill, which is scheduled for May 8th, he said that he has a handful of patients that never needed a fill...he said the things that determine whether you need one or not are hunger between meals, restriction as far as how much you can eat, and how much weight lost between the two week post op and six week post op appointments...

Hi! I was banded Nov 16/12 and have lost 98lbs and no fill. I rarely feel hungry ever, some people are just lucky and don't need em ;)

Yes, that is a possibility. There are some on here who have never had a fill and have lost a lot of weight. You and your surgeon will decide if and when you need a fill. If you don't need one, don't get one! Best wishes

the first 4 to 6 weeks, you are still kinda swollen and speaking for me, i wasnt that hungry and felt (full)...of course that changed and now i eat when i am hungry and am just mindful of my portions and the cal counts. like others who posted, i havent had any fills yet either...just listen to your body and let the doctor know whats going on and then you two decide if/when you need one. congrats on the great weight loss so far.

Thank you so much for the responses. It is rather exciting not to need a fill. I hear that most people without a fill yet feel no restriction, so I was surprised when feeling so full. Thx Again.

I was banded on November 6th and have lost 61.5 lbs with no fill. My dr has a policy that of you lose more than four pounds in a month, you don't need a fill. I actually just canceled my appt for Friday because I lost five pounds so far. I'm sure I will eventually need one but not yet!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
