I'm so sorry to hear that you placed a band at such tender age. :)

There are so many variables that contribute to how much weight you will lose and at what rate. Diet, amount/type of exercise, genetics, amount of Fluid in your band. Your doctor will be able to answer that question better than any of us can.

I wish you the best of luck. I just wish no child had to do this. My own daughter had gastric bypass surgery 11 years ago, and it is my biggest sadness and regret. :(

Why, what happened and how old was she when she did it?

I have had a weight problem all my life. I wish I had done something sooner. That being said, I hope at 14 you are ready to follow the band "rules". It's not a ticket to easy street, you will still need to work at it. I have no problem someone this young having surgery, as I assume it's been an issue most of your life. Why wait until you have diebeties, high cholesteral, high blood pressure et... I am in your corner, and hope you are succesfull! Please keep us posted.

I'm very excited for you! However, I hope you realize the complications that can occur if you do not follow the band rules! Many of use old geezers have a hard time understanding that. Hopefully you will be successful because you haven't had the years under your belt of bad habits to break like some of us!

Please know that excercise is so important! This will help with your weight loss.

This is not a quick fix so you should not be thinking about how fast you can lose the weight. You have a long life ahead of you! This is the time you need to concentrate on healthy choices and decisions that you need to make now and in the future! The reality of having the band with you for the rest of your life at this age to me is not realistic. You want to make this lifestyle a habit so if your ever without this tool in the future you will be able to continue a healthy lifestyle.

Please keep us posted on your journey. If you need anything I am willing to help you any way I can!

I appreciate all of the feedback! Your support means a lot to me. My mom and I did the surgery the same day and we are going through this journey together. I support her, and she supports me. Me knowing the complications to not following the rules makes me even more careful with what I consume. I have gone on past diets and of course always cheated, so I feel like since the consequences are very big in this case than I won't break any rules.

I will keep you all updated (: thnx again

I'm 14 and did the surgery 5 days ago, will I lose weight faster than people older than me?

How fast or slow you lose weight has very little to do with age actually. Some people just naturally lose more rapidly than others. But regardless of what you speed you lose at- all that matters is that you are losing.

Are your parents helping and supporting you through this? It's really crucial you have the necessary information and emotional support to be successful with the band.

I wish you and your mother a lot of luck. Doing it together may help both of you keep on track

At least you do not have 62 years of bad habits to overcome, only 14. Best wishes for a better life!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
