No prescription pain meds post op?

Recommended Posts

I don't know that you can avoid pain. Everyone's threshold is different. I think going through this procedure with NO pain in unusual. Fortunate for the few who skip through, but not the norm.

When I woke up from surgery it hurt like hell! I took Norco- which is hydrocodone and 325 mg of tylenol. (Took 2 pills at a time) every 4-6 hours the first day.

I would ask for at least enough for first day! You are being cut into!!! No one can decide what your level of tolerance will be...would be nice to have at least 6 pills to fall back on if its absolutely intolerable.

I was given a nasal spray pain med. I don't recall what it was. (I THINK it was a spray version of Lortab ) I used it for a couple of days and it worked well.

Not sure I'd have been wanting any pills for a few days...on a clear liquid diet and taking pills? ? Doesn't seem correct to me, but each doc is different.

I so appreciate all the feedback!! I meet with my surgeon this Wednesday so I will be discussing this with him. If nothing else, I have some Norco from an old ankle injury stashed away if worse comes to worse. I am just glad that I a not a wimp for thinking SURGERY might HURT a bit!!

I was on liquid Hydrocodone when I was sent home. Only used it twice... the pain wasn't that bad. I was sore, but the pain was tolerable. Worst part was the soreness of the larger incision when I moved around in bed. Good luck to you!

5 days post op and I too had little pain, was given liquid hydrocodone but only took it the first night home because of going to bed in a nonadjustable bed and thought it would take the edge off to sleep. Have not taken anything since. I too was told no Advil or Aleve. Best of luck to you.

I was given liquid lortab and zofran that dissolves under tongue. For me the worst pain was my port. Everytime I would move at all in a way that used my stomach muscles man it hurt really bad. I used my lortab for the first 3 days then switched to Tylenol.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
