Why am I so scared to not eat?

Recommended Posts

One thing I'm dealing with is not getting that full tummy feeling. I guess u can say I Miss it... But I want to be healthy more than I want to be full. it takes some getting use to, but if you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything.

I always think I want to eat more than I actually can physically eat...seriously i dream of having a whole burger or a heaping plate of Pasta or pick something.. But the truth is i cannt eat it. That's why I love my band...it won't let me. However it may not start out that way as it takes time to get to the green zone so you have to be strict with yourself until that time comes or you won't lose any weight.

I'm the same way. It's been 3 1/2 yrs and I still can't eat a whole burger. I can eat about 2/3 of it now. I still make a whole sandwich for myself, even tho I can never eat more than 1/2. I still order Pasta at Olive Garden, am full after my Soup and 1/2 breadstick, and take home the pasta. Every restaurant item is about 3-4 meals for me. In fact, I usually get sick of eating it and throw out part of it!

You will still be able to enjoy food (after the initial liquid/mushy stage, of course). There's only 3 things that I've found I can't eat: pancakes, thick crust pizza, and pineapple chunks. But I can only eat a small portion of food, thank God! But pre surgery jitters are normal. In fact, I might be facing a band redo soon and I'm not looking forward to the 4 week liquid diet. Almost died the first time around.

Good luck with your surgery!

Marci

You WILL eat again, and you will learn to love what you eat. You can do this. It is there for you if you want it!

My surgery date is now less than 2 weeks away and Im starting to seriously have anxiety about not eating again?? Im sure this is normal' date=' but it really makes me think about how important food has become in my life. Especially socially, we always eat out with our family and friends, and so this will be such a major change in my life. I already deal with anxiety disorder so this has just amplified my fear. I want this though. I do. This IS normal right??[/quote']

Yep. From another person who suffers from anxiety disorder. I was banded 2/18/13. The fear was there for me and it still is...you want this...that's important...I wanted this as well...the next step is to own it...congrats on your pending surgery date...I actually mourned the loss of my bff (food).

I eat almost everything I did before so I really never morned food. I still eat pizza. Because I haven't changed what I eat, I cook the same for my family as before. However, I eat my protien first! I guess I do eat more vegetables! Desserts are no longer a daily thing.

I recall prior to surgery I was thinking I'd never eat steak or bread again, be able to eat out with others or enjoy a normal meal. Mentally I think I was pretty determined to try everything post surgery and even sometimes when I've had a bad experience with certain foods (boiled eggs and cooked mushrooms were my nemesis for a while) I've persisted and enjoy most foods.

The benefit I've got with the band is not feeling the compelling desire to eat everything on my plate, or graze at food constantly. I'm much more satisfied and happy turning down offers for food, upsizes and walking away from a half eaten plate of food. I feel like this is what most normal people can do with food and the band helps keep that as a reminder.

Food! after band life... if you stick with your allowed portions and calories.. then you will be able to eat the foods you love BUT have a healthy loving relationship with instead of resenting them.

Ps. I still eat pizza.. Cept I eat about a 1/2 ny slice instead of 3-4 slices!

pizza <3

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
