Welcome and good luck to all you newbies! Walk as much as you can. Just follow your doctors food plan. They are all different with food types, amounts and how often. You will have to find what works for you especially when you really start exercising and get off the Liquid Protein. When you start getting fills, don't base the need on hunger if you are still drinking your Protein. Good luck and enjoy your new found excitement!

Really nervous. Going in for a seminar on Tuesday 4/23/13. Tired of living with my weight issues.. So' date=' obviously I'm a newbie here. Can anyone tell me what to expect during the seminar and how long does it take to get the approval and pre-op appt .[/quote']

My insurance only required one health issue and a psychological release. I was 6 weeks from seminar to banding today. 4/16/13

Hello everyone!

I'm scheduled for this Friday(April 19)... I'm nervous, but excited. My doctor did not put me on a liquid diet, just no sugar and lots of Protein. Has anyone out there had this same type of pre op?

Also, I'm looking to lose 45-60lbs. I'm only 5"2 and weigh in at 210 give or take. My BMI is 39.5 and I'm self pay. Is there anyone out there that needs or had the band done with my similarities?...again, I'm nervous, but hope this is one of the best decisions I've ever made for my health....hope to hear from someone soon...Thanks!....Sistercin

Hi sistercin! I'm also getting banded Friday! I'm 5'7" and my starting weight was 210. I'm down to 198. I have degenerative arthritis in my back and I had back surgery in May of last year. So my neurosurgeon advised me to be on low side of my height weight scale. I'm shooting for 130. I'm paying for mine also. High Protein liquid diet.....it sucks. Good luck to you!

Tomorrow is the day! I started in October at 285, dropped 10lbs and also lost another 14 in the last 2 weeks. My goal weight is 165--haven't been there since Jr high many years ago. My biggest motivation is my boys (3yrs and 3 months) and that I don't want them to grow up seeing an inactive man as their role model. Also I do not want to set them up to have such an unhealthy relationship with food as I had. Good luck to all other bandsters this week and otherwise.

My surgery is the same day. I have a similar diet also. A modified Atkins for 30 days prior. Lost 18 so far. I am not complaining about my pre op diet at all. I had it easy compared to others. I am looking to loose 70 pounds.

How is everyone who was banded in April doing? I was banded April 5th and it does get better every day! I am excited that I am finally able to lay on my side for a little while in the morning. I can't wait until I can sleep on my side all night. I am not a happy back sleeper! I am having a hard time with low carb mushy foods. Canned foods like chili and Soup are so high in sodium that I find I do not lose weight on days that I eat those. I went back to liquid diet for a day and yesterday I incorporated 1/2 cup of fat-free refried Beans with 2% cheese and a little sour cream and I was down this morning. :) Hooray for beans! Sorry family! LOL I have lost 23.4 pounds since March 25th when I started my pre-op diet. Since surgery I have lost 8 pounds. I am so excited about this journey. I think that being a self-pay patient really helps keep me focused on why I did this. I still have the food demons in my head but my bill for surgery keeps me accountable! LOL

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
