Understand but since I was not told I could have it in limited amounts that is what Im going by.

thank you all

While soda can not reach your band outside it makes the pouch expand and can cause the band to erode because anything that expands the pouch forces the band into the stomach which over time can cause erosion.

That does make sense if your drinking like a can a day or some hugh amount, I think that is why I was told to limit it and I only do no more than 2 a week, sometimes I dont have any.

appreicate the feed back

Beth.... down here we have Community coffee... it's the best... ummmm None of that weak folgers crap for me.... hehe

When i Pastored a church in Salt Lake City, I had a member who was a truck driver and every time he made a run to the South, he would bring me back a brick of that coffee, it was the blackest stuff I had ever seen, and smelled great. He said the whole town where it was made smelled the same way.

The blackest? Have you ever tried Cuban expresso? Now that's the blackest most delicious coffee that will put hair on your chest! I drink it every morning... Have been since I was about 10:)

Now if it would only take the hair off my back, you might have a deal.

when i started pre op and then post op, did not say anything about caffeine

in regards to cofee or tea (soda was out)..i drink a large dunkin doughnut coffee every day

and when i drink my reg tea, its half/half

like some say, whatever works for you and what your dr says

All this talk about strong coffee is making my hair curl. I like my coffee smooth, light and not bitter. I have flat whites every morning and if they're bitter or too strong, I won't go back to that place.

It makes espresso. I have all the Dunkin Donuts coffees and then some. I'm trying to make one of those pretty lattes the coffee shops give you, but it's an art that apparently takes time! I can make decaf espresso or regular, all depends on my mood.

I just posted the site dicussing caffeine cuz alot of people have this thought or the other on caffeine, figured it would be cool to see. Apparently I struck a chord here, LOVE all the talk!

I want to be able to create the above latte's....

Hahah don't tease me!

A friend of mine who had the band would open and drink one diet coke a day. He would sip it and let it almost go flat. I have drank soda a few times but I feel terrible afterwards so I don't bother with it.

I was told by my surgeon and nutritionist that the only reason they don't want me to have caffeine is because it dehydrates you, and they want us to stay hydrated. I drink coffee alot (from the south) and have been since I was a little girl, even my 5 yr old drinks coffee with me :) so I have both with caffeine and decaf just what ever I choose for that day..

Hahah don't tease me!

would have to start you off with the Community Med. Roast. Dark roast would be too much for you...lol

Same here I was never really told anything about coffee thank god cuz I work at Starbucks I mostly just drink tea though not a big coffee drinker ... But I was told to stay away from soda !! That's like the number one lap band rule NO CARBONATION!!! And Iv seen personally what it can do so I stay away Iv been carbonation free since sept 6 lol . ... If your still drinking soda rather it be only 2 cans a week I feel sorry and hope hope you have no complications :(

Lets think about this carbonation "myth". If you're drinking a liquid that happens to be carbonated it should pass through the band into your lower stomach where there should be room for the bubbles to dissipate. If your band is tight, it might take longer to pass through and make you uncomfortable for a few minutes. That said, you can burp and relieve the pressure. This is the way my doctor explained it to me...it's more about comfort than the danger of eroding your band by causing excess pressure on the stomach. This was based on drinking one carbonated drink, not a six pack.

My nutritionist told me to open the bottle, pour into a glass and let it sit for a few minutes to allow some carbonation to escape, but again, she stressed that its more for comfort than safety.

I have a favorite sparking wine I drink on occasion and I drink Perrier from time to time. Haven't had any issues with either. I also drink diet ginger ale or 7-up in a mixed drink occasionally.

I think we have to remember that we're all adults and able to make informed decisions without getting so wrapped up in the "rules". Caffeine, carbonation, sugar, carbs etc are all things that should be consumed in moderation, WLS or no WLS.

Just my .02 :)
