My Friend is Trying To Talk Me Out of The Band

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I finally have my insurance and I am in the process of finding a bariatric surgeon. Well I decided to confide in my friend and she just told me all of the negative things she has heard about the lapband. She said everyone she knows that have had the surgery has had problems. She told me she thinks I can do it myself.she said I may just have too much going on which is making me stress eat. She suggested me going to see a nutritionist. It made me confused kinda. But I'm going with my heart and continuing the journey. I have been on this site for 6 months and have been doing my due diligence in finding out all the information on this procedure. Please give me words of encouragement. By the way I made an appt with a bariatric dr for feb. 28 th.

I know I will be on a 3 month supervised diet. Do people change their minds?

Do yourself a favor and research the band, the surgeon and your feelings. You are doing this for yourself and your health, not anyone else. Share your knowledge with confidence and the supportive friends will listen, ask questions and stand by your side. Unfortunately, every one of us have had someone in our lives that is not supportive, I hope your friend will stand by you no matter what your decision may be.

I had the same problem with some of my friends and family. I decided to not discuss my decision on getting the lap band with them any more. Follow your heart because at the end of the day it's your health not hers.

Shades of my older daughter. She really flipped out. Still will not talk to me about it. But change my mind... NEVER!!! It is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Take you friend with you so she gets educated too, and maybe you will find a supporter after all!

Honestly, i'm young (early 20's) and decided I needed to have this done... both of my parents are overweight (have been their whole lives) and have a huge medical lits of issues each... Before surgery, I told my mom because I knew she would support me no matter what, and my grandmother (because i live with her and she always tells me i'm fat haha) and that was it... I didn't tell anyone else, not even my very best friend... I felt it was better for me that way, I didn't want peoples negitive thoughts to impact what I knew I needed to do... Hopefully your friend will come around and support you, because you'll need that shoulder to cry one.

Read all you can - good and bad. Listen to what others have to say - good and bad.

Then make the choice for yourself.

After that, ask for support or silence...their choice.

Good Luck!

Good luck. I am still waiting on my insurance approval. My sister said I was taking the easy way out..apparently she hasn't read up on the Lap Band. I guess we all have doubters in our family. Do what is good for you and you alone.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
