Recommended Posts

lately i have been eating:

lite cool whip and sprinkle cocoa powder on top!

lite cool whip and sprinkle nutmeg and cinn on top, or both!

egg whites OMG i forgot how good and low cal. they are! 6 whites with 1 yoke is 150 calories and it keeps me satisfied soooo long.

hummus: i have eaten for years but lately i am skipping the cracker and just eating it with a spoon.

walnuts and brazil nuts: i have been buying them in the shell cause it takes longer to eat and i dont eat nearly as many.

now that its cold i just made huge pots of each: pea Soup, black bean Soup and lentils...i froze them in small containers and i have ingredient controlled yummy lunches for the winter.

I have fallen head over heels in love with yogurt! I didn't eat it pre-band, but now I eat it every day. I have tried the commercial brands, but I stick with the organic all-natural ingredients which do have a bit of fat and sugar in them. I figure that is probably better than the chemicals, corn starch, and dyes in the Dannons and Yoplaits even though those are good, too. I also like Weight Watcher yogurts.

I'm really grateful for my yogurt addiction because it's PLAIN that I love. Occasionally, I will have blueberry or strawberry, but some days I think I could subsist on plain yogurt. :)

Yum! PlAIN GREEK STYLE YOGURT WITH LEMON AND A BIT OF STEVIA TO SWEETEN...it is soooooo good!:clap2: Feels like you are cheating on cheesecake!

Shelly we call cilantro coriander here, but its awfully good in a salad, mix in a good bunch with the lettuce - if you can find a Thai/Asian style dressing, its yummy - with slices of barbecued beef, bean shoots, red onion you can call it a Thai Beef salad.< /p>

I'm in Australia but I'm not big on sugar free or diet products, I dont like the taste and the thought of the chemicals in them gives me the heebies.

Lately I've been eating a lot of reaaaaaaaalllllly goooooood gourmet yogurt, full fat greek style stuff with fruit, its heavenly. Really expensive too. And of course more calories than lite stuff but for a meal, with maybe a small piece of fruit its still reasonable.

And tonight we had chicken burgers for dinner because for some insane reason I have had a huge craving for mango chutney lately - which we had on the burgers.

Jacqui, I'm a huge fan of the gourmet yougarts!! My favorite at the moment is Envy, with passionfruit. I'm so glad they've finally started selling them at the supermarket, rather than just the small fruit and veg shops I used to find it at. Because I'm on mushies, I've been having that occasionally for Breakfast.

Another Breakfast thing I've been having is low fat smooth cottage cheese mixed with either crushed pineapple or canned mandarins, all wizzed up with the stick blender. I've never really liked cottage cheese before, but thought I'd try it again, as it is a decent source of protein/calcium.

Tonight for dinner, we had homemade split pea and ham Soup and I must say it was delicious!! It was the perfect consistency after blending it for a moment and extremely filling.

Every year for Christmas we would buy a couple of Hickory Farms Smoked Beef Sticks....something my Mom started a long time ago. They carry approx 200 calories / 60 g serving. I was elated to find that they now have a smoked turkey stick....74 calories / 60 g serving....and you can't tell the difference!!!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
