I just got the bill from the doctor! I owe 4000. The hospital was covered under my insurance but the doctor was out of network. I thought I would owe 2000 the max! Pretty shocked at the price tag. Do you think there is anyway around this?

Not is Doc was out of network. Call him, they may be willing to reduce it for you.

He doesn't have to give any discount but I run a medical practice and we give self pay discounts for people who are out of network because that's really at this point what you are... self pay! If you offer to pay him up front so he could clear the balance off the books... he may be willing to give even deeper amount. I would at least ask him if he would consider accepting what the insurance would have paid if in network... or the amount of another insurance he may BE in network with.

All he can say is NO... it is worth the try.
