Any February 2013 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I am day 4 and having the same soreness only in the port incision the only difference is mine are glued and I never had them covered! I am not wanting this to take a month yikes!! I still do not have an appetite yet I have been forcing myself to eat a couple of spoonfuls of broth and 1/2 a sf Popsicle I can drink plenty but no desire to eat yet figured I would be starving by now??

You need to try and get as much Protein in as u can cause it helps the healing process. I know it hard. I didn't want to eat anything for a couple of days after surgery either. I didn't have glue but they put steri strips on my incisions. I am 1 week post op and I am just now starting to actually be hungry at times but still can't eat much. Hang in there

I am 4.5 weeks post op and my port incision just healed, and is now feeling better. I think it's the biggest incision and usually the thickest area so it just takes some time.

Thanks for posting!!!!! I feel much better knowing others have recovered similar.

My surgeon told me it would take the longest because that is where all of the biggest instruments are inserted during surgery. So there is more scar tissue there too that can burn or be sore as it breaks up during the healing process. No worries, I'm sure it will feel better soon. :)

Thanks for responding and thanks for the recovery wishes!!!

I had zero appetite but I did continue my Protein drinks. Like StephGabbard said you have to get your Protein in to heal. Best of luck !

I am so excited I was cleared for solids by my surgeon. My first meal was Caesar salad with salmon. I have been exercising 40 min a day with a goal to exercise 5 times a week. My hard work paid off a bit I enjoyed 2lbs of weight loss this AM and I feel very comfortable in a paired off jeans I shied away from.

I am also starting to feel good . I have little to no port site pain...once that constant reminder of the surgery was gone I really started feeling my "happy me" come back. :)

How are the rest of you Feb 2013 banders doing? This thread has been quiet......

How are February bankers feeling? I was banded 2/19 and have had two fills. I'm finally comfortable with my eating, food choices and exercise routine. Zero complications.

Hi, I am doing fine. Banded on feb 26, down 43 pounds so far. I had one fill at my 6 week visit. He gave me 5cc to a 14 cc band. Don't really feel any difference so to me its like I'm on any other diet. Some days are really hard and i can eat just about anything, nothing bothers me.....I'm hoping he will agree to give me another fill when I go back for my 3 month visit. Unfortunately my dr felt I was doing just fine losing so he didnt think it was necessary...but right now i don't feel like I'm getting the benefit of having the band. I would like another fill to make it a little easier.

I was banded on February 27th and feel great. I have had 2 fill and am at 7cc I believe the 14 band. I have no idea what I weigh but will find out on the 16th. I try to not weigh myself because I don't want to stress the number but the inches.

Doing well and finally comfortable living with this change. I still think about it often, not sure if that will ever change. The 1st month I told 2 close "couple" friends of ours, as we dine ow itch them often - now wishing I had just avoided them for a couple more weeks! They constantly ask how I'm "feeling", which is well intentioned, but annoying to me for some reason! Most of our friends don't know and I'm not feeling any compulsion to tell them, as I'm very private about my health.

I've lost 38 lbs (no pre op diet) with 3 fills totaling 5cc's. my Dr. Is very happy, so I'm just rolling along!

I agree, 1 lb at a time. I feel incredible. Although I had a few weeks where I felt my weight loss was stagnant my body was changing. I see it, I feel it and feel like this was the best decision that I ever made for myself.

I was banded in feb. Was disappointed at first ...had four fills and am now on 12 ccs since last Thursday. I started at 289 pounds and today I am 248. Down 41 pounds. Port still is soar and doc said I will probably feel that way forever. There was a few times I was stuck for weeks at losing weight. I joined weight watchers 2 wks ago and lost 8.4 pounds.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
