Had restriction, but now none?

Recommended Posts

So I had my band put on three weeks ago (my it seems like much longer ago!). For the first two weeks I felt lots of restriction, but now that I'm into the third week, I've lost most of the restriction feeling. I am guessing it's because the swelling has subsided and I'm healing?

Now I feel like I did before I had the band, I can eat, not much if any restriction. Is that just what happens after surgery and for your first fill? I was PERFECT right at the two week mark. I could eat but in small portions. I am suspecting that means I will need that first fill?

I'd lay odds it's the swelling subsiding, too. Don't be afraid of the fills. Slow and steady. That's what they're there for. I know some people don't need fills, but I don't think that's the norm. I personally had 3 right on schedule right at the start and never had a fill or unfill after that in 2 years. Just listen to your body and your doctor, and you'll get there. :D

Perfectly normal! As DetChatt says, it is the swelling going down post-op.

Good luck with fills and your journey.

Great, thanks so much guys!! My first fill is scheduled for next week, and my office is great so I know they'll be down with the slow and steady fill. :)

Normal... and learn to eat the proper amounts and chew, chew, chew and sip, sip, sip. Don't count on fills to do all the work, they won't. Lap Band is a tool, not a magic wand!

I am still eating the right things, eating slow, small bites, etc. It's just that I'm hungry now, where I wasn't really before, and I'm able to eat way more quantity than 1/2 a cup. Whatever I was at during week 2 of my recovery was absolutely perfect - so I hope I can find that spot again!

I realize that the lap band is a tool, and I plan to use it as it's supposed to be used!

Are you still on mushies? At 3 weeks you should not be eating full meals? Drink Protein shakes to fill you up.

Remember ever doctor is different. Mine allowed me solids after day 10.

great attitude so far..

note that the band will not help you not be hungry...i found that out quickly....sounds as if you are doing well..keep on drinking and i wish you all the best for this new life of yours.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
