Restriction changes from meal to meal

Recommended Posts

Hey... has anyone had a similar situation. I had my fill last week and I had really tight restriction. I could not swallow the meat off a chicken leg, or a hard boiled egg or chicken salad.....I PB'd on all of the above. This weekend we went out to dinner several times, I managed to eat about 100 tortilla chips and salsa and 1 slice of a quesidilla at one meal, I ate mozarella and tomoto salad, I ate 1/2 eggroll and some orange chicken and finally at the Angels/Yankee game I had a hot dog with bun (over about 1 hours time) and about 3 handfulls of popcorn. This was not a typical weekend for me. It just happens that we ate out alot. The wierd thing was.... I still ate less than I usually would have, but more than I think I should be able to. I gained 2 pounds of the original 7 that I lost!!!! I am very discouraged and not sure why I am not as restricted as I was... how will I ever lose weight and let go of the feeling that my band is not functioning properly????? Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions!!!!!!

I have been banded for 12 months now and had good restriction from about 5 months out. I havent had a fill in about 5 months and my restriction changes on a daily basis. At least once a week I think I need to go for a fill because I can eat so much and things I usually cant eat, then the next day I have trouble with even soft things. Its completely normal and thats why the band to me is known as the "finicky bitch". You never know what mood she is going to be in when you wake up, just take it one meal at a time.

Thanks for the encouragement... that is exactly how I feel!!! Not a day goes by that I don't worry if my band is functioning properly! I only wish that I had greater success so that I could believe that this was all a wise choice.

My band is finicky as hell. Yesterday I had three pieces of string cheese for lunch, and 3 oz. of salmon and 3 small red potatoes for dinner and I was fine.

Today I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, skipped lunch, and had 4 bites of salmon and one bite of potato for dinner, and I have had the golfball from hell for the last 90 minutes. Go figure.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE. So you've joined the crazy band club. That's what I say about mines all the time, "it's acting crazy today". I had a fill last Thursday and the first 2 days, I could get nothing down other than my Protein shakes, which was fine. On Sunday, I could eat mash potatoes and some other things I should not have been eating but since I hadn't had nothing to eat, I thought it was OK, my mistake.

Late yesterday and today has not been a good day. I had a bad PB session just before choir rehearsal last night. Thank God the bathroom is not near anything. After eating very little yesterday, this morning I was very hungry but it doesn't seam to be working today. I have been able to get down 48 ozs if Water and 1 Protein shake so I feel better. But this band has a mind of it's own and some days I am greatful for it and others, I do not like it that much.

I seam to go through a lot with my fills and it takes my body several weeks to adjust so I just go with the flow. Hang in there it will get better.:D :D

It's amazing to hear how varied the "fill" experiences can be. I see the surgeon for my first post-op visit on Friday and I guess I'll find out at that time when he'll do my first fill. Since I really don't have any restriction now, I am both dreading and looking forward to the first time. LOL.

It happens to me all the time too! I sometimes can eat a nice piece of chicken with no problems other times I cant swallow pudding and it feels stuck...Go figure...just a part of being banded I guess.......hang it there..

I have discovered that eggs are almost always difficult to eat. And chicken without some kind of sauce is also out of the question for me. But I can eat steak, go figure. My band loves carbs, it says bring on the chips, popcorn and such and I can have all I want. I can't however do hot dog Buns, 2 bites and I am uncomfortably full. Some days I can eat an entire kids meal for dinner and other days I struggle with the veggie pieces in Soup. I love my band but wish she would make up her mind. ~Mandy

Boy are these threads hitting a "home run" with me. I've only had one fill and keep thinking I need to go for another. Most days I can eat anything I want, just have to chew a bazillion times. However, on Easter Sunday, we went to a BBQ and I add some venison sausage, brisket and a couple of deviled eggs. Finished it off with a bite (really) of the Desserts my family ate. Yesterday, I felt queasy all day and didn't want to eat anything, but managed a boiled egg, some yogurt and a few goldfish (crackers). Last night I ate some Pbutter saltine crackers and drank a big glass of peach tea. This morning I still feel like I have something "stuck in my throat", and have no desire to eat anything. Could this be caused by the band? I've not felt "queasy" since I was banded on 2/20/06. I don't know if I'm fighting a virus or if the band is to blame. Any thoughts? Thanks

I think many of us feel the same way! I think it is common for the band fills to kick in, even 1-2 weeks after the fill. Also, I think it is common that once you PB a few times, the stomach is swollen, thus tightening our band. Not to mention, hormones, time of day, etc.

My motto with fills is...if more often than not you are too tight, then you may need a slight unfill. I HATE being too tight.

Also, with the quick weight gain. Sometimes, if I am too tight (low calories) over time, then bamm I am loose and can eat more, my weight loss slows or I even gain a pound or two. I attribute this to my metabolism slowing, due to low calories/starvation mode. Then, once I can eat more my metabolism is still on "slow speed" and takes a while to speed up. Your body want to conserve the food (energy) it is receiving. Give it awhile, those pounds will come off.

For me, my restrictions differ depending on my monthly cycle (sorry guys!) The closer to AF, the more restricted I become.

Also, there are ways to eat around the band. For me, eating chips is easy. Eating dense Protein is hard. When I was eating incorrectly (crunchy carbs), I gained weight. Once I stuck to what I am suppose to eat (and not drink with my meals), my band's restriction works better.

But yes, it can be fickle!!!

I am so glad found this tread it was what i needed since last fill (2nd fill) i have had good days and bad days thought i was doing something wrong since threw up for fist time after 2nd fill. I know what you mean about the things you can eat. :faint: The bad part it seems the foods can eat are the ones not to eat. I just don't eat then and know that's not ok but worry about throwing up. Man i love these little things lol everything i see this guy thud.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
