the 5 day pouch test

Recommended Posts

I do my own version of his, basically drinking odwalla type drinks and Protein smoothies. Mostly to sort of reset the pouch, by bypassing it a few days with just liquid food that goes right through the stoma . It also get me used to not wanting to feel overfull . And finally it helps me kick start my resolve and ability to say.no to things I should avoid.

My band isn't very full to begin with, so there isn't a ton of restriction for me, but after this I do notice my band is more effective.

I just stay on smoothies etc for as long as I can, this time I'm on day 5, and I just transition to soft Protein for a day or so. I don't restrict calories or anything, but always drop a few pounds of Water and other types of "waste". .

Anyhow. i like hearing how this is working for orhers!

I have been banded for 2 yrs. I gained back 10 lbs of the 50 I lost, I was having stomach problems and the drs. could not figure out what the problem was and were not happy with the lap band so they were deciding that was the problem. I was not happy with that. I knew it was not the problem, one night it was so bad my husband took me to urgent care and there the dr. pin pointed the problem to my gall bladder. Went to see a gastric dr and sure enought it was that and had it taken out in October. I have not been able to lose again so I went and had a fill last month. Does the 5 day plan work? If so I will try it to get going. Any other ideas. I am starting to ride a stationary bike for about a half hour each day.

Do you just do slimfast shakes or what type of shakes?

The pouch test went pretty well, I definitely felt tighter after the two days of liquids. As for what to drink, I went to Nutrition House and bought the lowest calorie, highest Protein drink I could find. Doesn't matter what kind. I think Slimfast has a lot of calories, which is why I didn't use it. I noticed there's a brand at Walmart that isn't too pricey and would work fine.

Oh yeah, and I lost 5 pounds. Got on the elliptical today for about 40 minutes too. Felt pretty good.

I will check out the Protein Drinks. I have been doing the stationary bike for a half hour. My exercising was nothing until my dr. cleared me back in November, and then the holidays came. Now I am wanting to get down to focusing on me and my lap band tool. Five day plan here I come!!!!

I've started the pouch test today as well. For those who asked' date=' here's the plan: (I don't advocate buying any of the products, since the plan is dead easy to follow.)

Days One & Two: liquid Protein

low-carb Protein shakes, broth, clear or cream Soups, sugar-free Gelatin and pudding.

Day 3: Soft Protein

canned fish (tuna or salmon) eggs, fresh soft fish (tilapia, sole, orange roughy.

Day 4: Firm Protein

ground meat (turkey, beef, chicken, lamb), shellfish, scallops, lobster, fresh salmon or halibut.

Day 5: Solid Protein

white meat poultry, beef steak, pork, lamb, wild game

Slipped up a teeny bit this morning while feeding my son - I mindlessly ate a few mouthfuls of banana. Not the end of the world, but it was amazing how the food just ended up in my mouth, without me thinking about it.

Thank you for posting this. I think I may try this starting Monday. I need to keep carbs at bay anyway

I liked it. I lost 5 pounds. Its a good for reconnecting with your band. I know I needed to reconnect, so it worked well for me. I have been doing green smoothies more, no Protein, just fruits and veggies. I feel that this has helped to loose also. I only add protein when I have a serious work out. Just doing this has tighten my band. I too don't have a lot of restriction, so it helps.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
