To tell or not

Recommended Posts

I have not told any one where I work that I am getting banded. As I get close to my date which is jan 10, I don't know if I should say why I am out. I look at it as being private. Any thoughts ?

If you want it to be private.. be private hun. Especially work.. they don't need to know anything you don't want them to. Good Luck!! :) and grats on taking this next step!

Definitely this is a personal decision. I chose to tell a few people and it has worked out ok but it's really what your comfort level is.

Just keep in mind that you may get questions if you are not eating or hobbling around. Not saying you have to tell them why, just be prepared how you want to field those types of questions if they come.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery!!!

Congrats on your surgery and yes this is a personal decision. There is no reason to tell anyone but they will be asking you questions especially as you start to lose weight. Just prepare yourself what you are going to tell them when the questions arise.

I agree, only a few select friends know and work friends, but for the most part...nobody knows..Its my personal journey some co workers, friends, and family may not understand..and right now, its about me!!

Personal decision, but do be prepared to answer questions... Are you OK? What are you doing to nlose so much weight!

I just tell folks I am doing great and following a restricted diet. Seems to work fine.

I didn't tell anyone besides for my sisters and my mom

BEST decision I've ever made

People can be nasty/hurtful/blunt without realizing it. This is a tough time to begin with, who needs everyone else's judgement??!!

MAYBE after i've lost all my excess weight and reach my goal i'll spill, but for now I can do without the judgements/questions that are inevitable when telling other people

People will start asking questions the more weight you lose. I told my immediate family, minister, and about 5 close friends. Funnily enough i find it easiest to tell complete strangers. LOL! I have no hard and fast rule about who I tell, I just go by if I feel comfortable to do so or not. I am proud of my band but do not need any negativity in my life.

To tell is a personal choice. I only told a few t first. Soon learned that as soon as you open that can... Be prepared, people love to tell secrets. Unless you don't want anyone too know.. Keep to yourself. I told people that.... I'm watching what I'm eating and exercising. Which was completely true. If you choose to tell, be prepared to get the look and too feel like you have too defend your choice. The look.. The oh, you too the easy way out look. Then the... Why did you that, you could have done it on your own.

I've told my boss and my best work friend. That's it as far as work for me. My surgery is jan 17 and i will be out until the 28th.

I will probably tell the rest of them about my surgery if and when they ask about my weight loss. I just don't want to add to the stress and anxiety beforehand.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
