First I should tell you all that I have forever struggled with anxiety about my health. Since I have got home from the hospital on Wednesday I just keep thinking that I am going to have a blood clot. I have given myself a number of panic attacks over this in the past days. Does anyone know the stats of blood clots after lap band surgery and for how long after surgery does a person have to be concerned with blood clots.

Developing clots afte Lapband is not any more common than with any other major surgery. Focus more on how you can prevent complications instead of worrying about getting them. Suggestions, by walking, not crossing your legs, not sitting on your feet, doing coughing and deep breathing exercises immediately post op you decrease chances of complications like blood clots and pneumonia. I do understand your anxiety but worrying about complications will not help you heal or be productive with your band, during this surgery and being on this forum you are going to read a lot about different people having complications for one reason or another. As to how long after surgery, days, weeks or months. Again just a suggestion, maybe discuss your anxiety with your doctor. Good luck and hope you do well.

I would talk to the doctor or psychologist about this. I am a very anxious person as well, but I don't think fretting about it will help.

As long as your moving you should have nothing to worry about. Walk and do ankle pumps when in bed.

Hello my soulmate! I am already getting anxious about how I will survive a stuck and I haven't even had surgery yet! I've had panic attacks for 15 yrs, soi feel your pain. Can't give you a dircet answer, but moving as much as possible will eliminate clots.

def agree with the banded b's on moving about as much as you can

i also had to take 2 levonex shot a day for 2 weeks after my surgery. hub put them right into my belly...worrying about things you cant control is pointless. i say that because i am ms worry princess.

so here is what you are going to do

head up

chin up

smile on your face

and get this surgery to make yourself well

As an employee in the nursing department at my local hospital, I see post op patients daily! It is such a small ratio for blood clots after surgery: if you are moving around and doing what you have to do to prevent them. I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks as well so I understand the worry but let me reassure you that you're going to be okay! Keep smiling and working hard! Good luck with everything :)

Thank you everyone for your responses. I woke up this morning telling myself that I am not going to think about it. The most I sit for is a half hour to an hours and my 2 and 4 year old have me up getting something. I have been up cleaning and doing things around the house since I got up this morning and I feel so much better.

I used to be a nurse and once they were awake enough we would iffer if they would like to get up and go to the toilet and brush their teeth, plus we had either calf compressors or TEDS which are calf compression stockings like what you can get for long flights. When i had my first band in i wasnt asked to get up. When i had it taken out 2 years later i got offered to go to the toliet but not a walk. On the 30th nov im going in to get a new one and we have already been told to get up and about and we can drink as soon as we feel up to it

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
