Haven't been around - my story

Recommended Posts

I want to write this, just to let you know that I think that getting my band was the best thing that I ever did.

I was banded by Dr Ortiz in 04/2003. I originally weighed 362lbs, then lost 80 pounds in 9 months. Then, for over 2 years, I went through a horrible time in my life which had nothing to do with my band. But the only way I knew how to cope was by eating. Now, I had a pretty good restriction, but I learned to eat around the band. Over those 2 years, I gained 55 pounds back. If I didn't have the band, I would have easily gained well over 100 or more.

I finally got my life back on track and found that I still have great restriction when I eat the right foods. I have lost 20 pounds and am going strong. Once I got my mind set, the rest has become very easy because my band makes it easy.

I am glad that I didn't have the bypass like I was debating about back in 2002 because I would have failed miserably. I have a great tool, my best friend, my band.

I just wanted people that are thinking about being banded that it is a great tool...

That is one of the top reasons I went with the band.

Good on you for jumping back on the bandwagon, the bandwagon will always be there waiting for you. When you fall, you can always just jump back on.

Way to go Sheryl! Welcome back!

and congrats on only gaining 55 pounds. I know it does seem a lot, but when you put it into context with what you would have gained without the band, I think it does call out a lot

Congratulations for making it through the rough times, Sheryl. I really believe that what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Since you're still breathing you must be stronger and ready to start out brand new. Good Luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
