2 Years Ago Today...

Recommended Posts

I was on the 2nd day of my pre op liquid diet. I had a headache from hell... I was starving or so I thought and and I was pretty ticked off I had to cook for 15 people when I couldn't even eat! I was feeling pretty sorry for myself but I busied myself in the kitchen and plowed through the day. I cannot tell you it was the best day of my life but I put a smile on my face and kept reminding myself the sacrifice would be worth it.

Fast forward 2 years and I am in the kitchen cooking again anticipating the 10 people hungry people who will arrive in a few short hours. The food will be plentiful but I will be eating about as much as my 17 month old granddaughter...probably less. But this year I could care less. I am enjoying everything these days. I am thinner than I have been since I was 12. I am thankful for my health and the support of my friends and family who have lived through this journey for the past 24 months. I am thankful I can dress stylish, not sweat in my kitchen because I am so fat.... And stand at the kitchen sink for hours with out actually sitting to peel the potatoes.

I am telling you this because many of you are just starting your journeys or are in the middle of them...and I just wanted to remind you that this is the best decision you ever made....and for that you should be thankful.

Have a wonderful holiday

I always love reading your posts! I made it through dinner with my in-laws on the mushie phase. Blended turkey and gravy, with a little bit of cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes. Not hungry at all....not even hungry for any dessert!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

What a great post! You're so much better than me putting your thoughts down in words. Two years ago I had to start my liquid diet on thanksgiving day, my surgery was on dec 10th and I was on puréed foods on Christmas Day! I realized that the holidays are about so much more than food. That is such a good lesson I've learned thanks to the lap band.

thank you for posting! I always love reading your posts, they are so uplifting. I ate out today since it was just me and my mom, ate at the Cracker Barrel, chose the Thanksgiving dinner off of the childs menu, brought more than half home. I was telling my mom "wow do you remember last year how much I ate and she replied yes, you were eating yourself to death and neither of us did anything about it" I'm so grateful for God's grace and mercy for this second chance at life and 2 yrs from now I will hopefully be singing your praises as well.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
