Experiencing My 1St "stuck" Episode

Recommended Posts

Ok I will make my 1 month on Nov 4th. Today I ate broccoli casserole and I'm not sure if something is stuck or what but this is a pain I have not felt before. It kinda hurts to breath and there is a lot of discomfort in my rib. Don't know what to do

usually with stuck will eventually come slime...not always, but yes being stuck can be uncomfortable for sure...to be honest.you will learn what foods you can and can not eat, especially with each fill it may change. I can not eat broccolli unless it is more shredded..Get up and walk, see if that helps..sometimes if you drink something hot it may help loosen things up!! let us know!

Sounds like you are having a stuck episode as they can be very painful. If you can spit it up (not vomiting) do so. Do not try to drink liquids on top or that could be agony. You can try to walk around and if you are "sliming" spit that out as that causes even more pain for me as that builds up. Good luck.

Also, I can eat most anything (broccoli included). I just have to eat slow and take breaks between bites. For future (I know, NO help now) eat slow and take rests between bites after chewing the bejeeezies out of your food (not saying you didn't - but just in case) and if you feel even the slightest discomfort in your chest during eating do not continue eating or drinking until that passes. I have had moments where I feel a slight tightening and feel like I will be fine and take another bite and that one does me in. I hope your discomfort passes soon. It sucks but is a learning lesson in how to use this tool.

The good news is for me that when it would pass it was like instant relief where you all of a sudden feel good.

I got stuck on broccoli not too long ago and I was stuck for 5 hrs, it was horrible. Such pain and the slime and PBing to go along with it. I finally threw it up after someone on here suggested sipping some Sprite, only a couple of sips to fizz it out and sure enough it came straight up whatever was lodged. This went on till almost 3 a.m. one night and luckily someone on here was still up to answer me with ideas. Hope you feel better. I got stuck tonight on a chicken sandwich from Wendy's, never again. Don't know if it was the bread or chicken but not again.

My first stuck episode hurt so much I thought I was going to be calling for a life flight helicopter to rush me to the nearest major medical facility! Remember, chew, chew, chew!

As another poster has said, sometimes drinking hot liquids can help...before OR after. I know that sounds contradicting because they say not to drink anything when you're eating, let alone when you're having a stuck feeling, but heating up some really hot tea or coffee and sipping on it for a few minutes has saved me from having to PB many of times.

Also, to help with not PBing...I suggest staying hydrated throughout the day. I find that I can eat more without getting that stuck feeling if I drink Water all day. Sometimes I'll drink like 8 12oz bottles a day. It really makes a difference.

Another thing that helps when you do get stuck is to do a sort of "chicken dance" move with your left arm. No dancing required, just an up and down movement kind of like a flapping bird. Seems to help get things moving. I never fail to be surprised at the amount of relief I have once the troublesome food passes. I have NEVER been able to get a food back up, so getting it through is the only thing that works.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
