Over 50 lap bandsters

I use to live in Houston back in the 1985 for about six years, then in Dallas about 4. Love those Texans, and miss them. I still have a son living in Arlington Texas. We live in North Carolina now, love those North Carolinians also, and are very happy here as well. Sounds like you've done well. I got banded this week and this is my best day yet, looking forward to continual improvement and success. Keep us informed!

Hey everyone,

Yesterday I had all of my pro-op blood work done except for triglycerides. They wouldn't do that test at the lab as they insisted that I must be fasting for 14 hours. No one gave me those instructions at either doctor's office.

Anyway, I had all the other tests done and my ECG and will go back for the triglycerides next thursday.

I am still VERY hungry but my scales are dropping dropping!

Sorry when things like that happen. Why don't people give complete information, it gets so frustrating, but you are going back Thursday and that will be over. Good results, I am getting at a bit of the hungry stage also. I keep filling up with the Water and liquids. Helps some.

Update! Update!

Hi everyone! Well I am alive and well in bandland!

4 days post-op - Not able to get in much nutrition yet - yesterday and today 1 full Optifast over the entire day in 2 sittings. About 1/2 cup of cream Soup strained - over the day in 2 sittings - lots of crystal light and Water - no problems there. Actually also had 1 tsp of cottage cheese today - ok'd by Marie at my Dr's office. So I have been well under 300 cals per day since last thursday now.

I am having a check up by my family doctor tomorrow. I am still having huge shoulder pain - still using a heating pad - still using gasx although not really passing gas.

I have found that my back is really sore I seem to be using back muscles to compensate for sore stomach muscles. Incisions are healing nicely and I am going to have my 2nd shower tonight.

I have not had any nausea at all and no gravol at all. Had 1 ddemerol yestday and then tylenol liquid before bed and no pain killers today and I have been up and about all day today.

Had my first trip out of the house today to get mail and the grocery store. Had my grandkids tonight for a couple of hours and so all in all Life is Good!

I have lost a total of 25 lbs since starting the pre-op diet.

I can't say that I am hungry - at all - but I did have problems with Jello - juicy jells sugar free - it was too rubbery and thick and could not get it to dissolve in my mouth to swallow and it sat there!!! yuck!

well thanks for all the good advice and the good wishes - glad to be here in bandland!

I was banded on 03/06/2006. I am 52 and needed to lose at least 200 lbs. I have lost 55 as of last week, but have not had any fills.

Better late than never. I just keep waiting for the "failure"

I'm so excited. Things are finally moving. My doctor called yesterday and said I have to have a cardiology release so my cardiologist called today and it my tests are scheduled for 6/14. I'm 58 and I'm glad we are talking about it. I also appreciate all the support and the answers to my endless questions (I'm sure you have all answered them already a million times). I was in 5th hour Business Law the day Kennedy was killed. I was crushed. Haven't thought about it in years. Thanks guys for being here. Katt

I am am 15 days post op and I am 58! Since they didn't have it when I was younger I am making up for lost time. I don't want to get all sorts of age/fat related illnesses. I have this nightmare about being old, sick and so fat that I need help with daily living...shudder! I want to be a happy active thin oldster someday.

There are lots of us being banded in the over 50 category.

Yay, you are doing so well, twenty five pounds Whoo Whoo! I also had a lot of issues with the pain in my shoulder from the gas. I can tell you that about on the 3rd week the pain pretty much subsided. The more movement and when you can finally poop some, the more the pain goes away. Crass but true! It's been a month out now and I am looking forward to a fill the next time around. I am just maintaining now because of the mushies and carbs. I am trying to find more Protein oriented type mushies, not real easy, but I've slowly been introducing cheese and meat, like tuna and chicken. Chew, Chew, Chew! Just think we have so much to look forward to. Now just got to get into a routine exercise program. Welcome to band land!

I'll jump in here. I'm 50 and waiting for a surgery date from my doc. It looks like I may be 51 by the time I'm banded. lol It's good to hear from all of you. A lot of wisdom and insight IMHO. This thread was a great idea. I am so lookin forward to not being on the sidelines of life! - get around easier, maybe I won't creak and pop so much anymore - lol.

You hang in there, the wait is worth it. We all can relate to wanting to get off the sidelines and and have a more active and quality of life. Turning 50 or over is not the end of the road! All of you are proving that. Keep on pursuing and get all the information you can, push the paper work!

I was so worried about turning 50 last Sept., but now thanks to the band I'm feeling better than I have in years! I had surgery 1/24 and have lost 33 pounds...not terribly fast, but I'll take it! If I could stay away from the chocolate it would go faster, I know. I get my third fill next week and am hoping that I'll get better restriction then. It was so neat to go for a brisk walk last night (about a mile) and actually enjoy the exercise rather than detesting every minute! And I found a shirt in my closet that I had purchased last year and it was too small...it fit great now. The NSVs are what keep me going!!! Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their summer~

My wife and I were banded 5/11/2006 at the age of 63. We are doing fine. Drinking lots of Water. The swelling has subsided but can tell no difference in the band. Very small amounts of food fill us both. I have noticed that while watching TV at night I want to snack even though I am stuffed. It must be all in the brain.

In the past we ate mostly comfort food and now we are finding it is just as comforting to eat right.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
