May 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

Hi All....

First of all....it is encouraging to hear from you folks who have just been banded. I will be counted among you on Monday. I'm excited but nervous. Two regular meals left,as I've been on the Slim Fast gig (two replacement meals) for the past couple of weeks. Given that I'll be on Clear Liquids only on Sunday, I figure I'll eat two favorite last meals tomorrow and Saturday. I read on another post that it's like getting a divorce from food. In many ways I can relate to that....at times feeling pretty pathetic about grieving for the loss of mac and cheese, however :think. Oh well....I am planning to heal up physically and emotionally from this historic pattern of addictive eating and am very eager to see the weight come off. That ought to be a pretty good source of comfort as I'm learning to separate myself from unhealthy eating patterns. I solicit your prayers (I admit to some weird, irrational fears about 'buying the farm' on the table) and will certainly pray for you all. I can't wait to report in. I'll be spending the night in the hospital on Monday and home on Tuesday. Gonna get stocked up on Gas X, stool softener, broths, Jello, heating pad, mild tea, chewable Calcium, Flintstone Vitamins and Protein drinks...did I forget anything? You folks are the best support and inspiration! Many thanks for making this forum such a great place.

I was banded on May 4, 2006 by Dr. Felix Spiegel. Dr. Spiegel was fantastic. I am doing great. Came home in about 4 hours, walked around and slept. Hope everyone else is doing fine.

Scout - you most certainly have my prayers as does everyone else about to be banded. I know the prayers of others helped get me through my surgery this past Tuesday.

As for supplies - I wanted to call notice to the heating pad... EVERYONE should have a heating pad - I wish I had one, as do the other women who had the surgery with me this week. It would have made things feel so much better, more comfortable. None of us had accute pain, but we all were very sore and heat would have worked wonders. I had a backache the first day and a half, and now my front aches some. Again, nothing horrible, but a heating pad would be nice.

In addition to the Gas-X, try to grab some Maalox, as the Gas-X didn't seem to help everyone. A combo of the Maalox and the Gas-X seemed to help better.

2 last pieces of advice: First: the people who give this advice are not kidding...DO NOT eat a heavy meal (or even a moderately heavy meal) the night before surgery, if you can keep it as close to liquid as possible you'll make your post surgical time so much easier. Second is make sure you get up and walk, walk, walk around the hospital as soon as possible and as much as possible. I haven't walked so much in I don't know how long. It makes me feel soooo much better when I walk. And take LOTS of deep breaths. It's weird, but it works. It think I need to get up and walk now, actually!

Best of luck to all you guys getting banded the rest of this month... anyone please feel free to PM me if you have specific questions - I'm not shy and I don't mind sharing information, so feel free to be as candid as you are curious.

Your Band-Sister, Dawn

No, I do not feel nauseated. It is probably the gas still in your system. I walked a lot and took Gas-X to get the gas out.

I second the heating pad recommendation. I did not have much pain but I think it helped with the soreness and swelling. I found the heat to be very comforting.

I am 11 days out and am doing great. My weight loss has stalled a bit in the past couple of days but my doc says thats to be expected until I get a fill. I get my first fill May 30. Until then I am munching right along on my mushies.

Hi Scout and anyone else about to be banded -

I woudl suggest you also add something like Chloraseptic Throal Spray to your list of things to buy.

I got a tickly in my throat a few days post op , started coughing and OH THE PAIN! :omg:

Luckily we had Chloraseptic spary up stairs and a few sprays of that numbed my throat and solved the problem.

It's happened a couple of times since so I keep the spray handy.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
