May 2006 Band Crew

Seminole~

I know what you are talking about with the bad taste going on. I had it and no matter what I did, (brushing 10 times a day!) it just had to run its course. I asked a girl who had been banded about 6 weeks ahead of me, and she said it was from the anethesia. She told me it would leave after about a week, and it finally did. I sucked on sugar-free mints some, and my mouth even felt like it had a film in it. Drinking Water seemed to help for a few minutes, so I always got my water in!! It was wonderful when it finally left.

I am on my 12th day of being banded. It gets better every day. I havae tried to do some of the real food, and some I have had trouble with, and some of it surprisingly does not effect me. But when it does, WOW! I know I have got to wait on that one again. The blender has become one of my best friends. I blended hamburger, green chilies, cream of mushroom Soup, a dap of 1% milk, and some fat-free cheddar cheese, and had the same basic cassarole as my family, except I didn't get to have the corn tortillas. It was odd with the texture, but still tasted great.

Glad you are doing so well. I walk as much as possible. Sometimes it isn't but about 15 minutes, and sometimes I get in 30 - 45 minutes, a couple times a day. I also do some easy leg lifts while laying on my side supported by my elbow and hand. I haven't yet done anything simular to crunches though!!

Hi. I was just banded on May 11 in Monterrey, Mexico, and I told my doctor that I had some Protein Powder ready to go, and he said not to use it unless I wanted to gain weight! He said when I can eat food to eat beef. My regular doctor told me to eat red meat on occasion because it has amino acids that I need, and I have been doing that for years. What is the Protein powder made of? Does it have amino acids? Thanks.

He said when I can eat food to eat beef.

The Protein Powder is a supplement you take during those weeks/months right after surgery when you can't eat solid food. It's very difficult to take in enough Protein on a liquid diet without that supplement. I'm surprised he would tell you not to do protein supplements at all. I'm even more surprised that he'd tell you to eat beef. From what I understand, a lot of bandsters have trouble with beef.

LindaV: The green eyed jealously monster steps in. Thank you for admitting that...felt like I was alone. I have to hang in there until Friday...but if you need my support, I'll go clear all week until Sunday with you.

The weather is really keeping me indoors, and since I have a 3 year old to haul all over tarnation that I can't pick up, I have avoided taking the kids to the mall. But I guess i can't keep that up for much longer.

Time to get those bootstraps in check for another week...it's only one more week. Tie 'em up walk and clear liquid, clear liquid, clear liquid!

Off to work..yippeee!!! :)

Congrats to all those getting banded this week. Those that are already banded... awesome! Sounds like everyone is doing great.

I am now 14 days post op and am doing great. No problems at all. I took new pics of my scars last night, I should post them on the scar thread I suppose! There are 3 that I can hardly even see anymore. I think it's because I have been putting Vitamin E on them every night. I guess some of the credit should go to my awesome surgeon though as well!

I am doing great on mushies. I think my hunger has been a lot more under control this weekend. Last week I would eat and 2 hours later I was STARVING. I am able to eat a bit more at a sitting now... probably about a cup... and that seems to help keep the hungrys away. Now if I could only get all my Water in!!

Hope everyone has a great week and again.... good luck to those going this week! :clap2:

Since yesterday was Mother's Day, my husband made me something special........a sweet potatoe, baked, then smooshed up really well with "I Can't Believe That's Not Butter" sprayed on it.

YUMMY!!!!!!!

Since today's been 2 weeks post-op, I'm going to the gym to weigh in. Someone was asking about exercising and how soon you should start......I started 2 days post op. Very slowly, but I was moving. My doc says to wait 3 weeks before lifting weights, but other than that, if it doesn't hurt, do it.

Good luck to anyone that is being banded today!

Okay Everyone, I need to get control of myself. First I got tired of my steristrips and took them off - incisions seem fine - but I was supposed to let them come off naturally. Then I took a bath when I'm supposed to be showering still. Next, when my grandson (40 lbs) fell off his scooter I ran and scooped him up and carried him into the house. And yesterday we had a Mother's Day picnic. I chewed very well, but I ate a small amount of chicken, Beans, mashed potatoes/gravy, an olive and a strawberry. The food didn't bother me at all, it went down fine, but I am only two weeks out and I'm not supposed to be eating most of that until the end of week five! I really need to crack down and stick to my program so I don't mess things up for myself!!

Hope

P.S. Don't slap me with that fish thing, Dawg, I would probably just grab it from you and eat it!

Hi Hippo's Hope (what a name!)

How did you get the gook from the tape off of your body? I've tried soap and oil and I still can't get it off.

thanks, Laura

Laura, My tape didn't leave any residue at all. But if you get a good answer to your question, I would be interested. I use hormone Patches that I change twice a week and they leave ugly rectangular goop and it is impossible to get off. I would love to know how to get those little outlines off my tummy and tush.

Hope

Hippo's Hope - It was great talking to you last week. It sure does get hard the second week. I have been having cottage cheese which I'm not supposed to have until next week, but, I feel like I need something of substance and at least it is soft and gives me a lot of Protein. I don't blame you for picking up your grandson, it's a natural thing to do. I'm glad you didn't hurt yourself. WE CAN DO THIS! Only 6 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trip2Beme - Again, thanks fo the understanding! I am actually not on clear liquied (THANK GOD); full liquids are hard enough. My husband made me some pumpkin Soup yesterday that was great and had a little substance to it. It's weird, sometimes I seem to fill up on liquids really quickly and stay full a long time, and sometimes, it seems like I am hungry 15 minutes later. Thanks for the offer to go on liquids with me but, I wouldn't ask that of anyone!

Well, it's another new week and several more of you will join us in bandland. Good luck to all of you! Keep us posted! Despite my wining the last week or so, this journey has been amazing and it really is doable. :gluck:

Laurapar and Hippo's Hope,

I have had luck using baby wipes to get sticky stuff from tape off. With the worst case messes such as sap, I use a little bit of Goo Gone. You have to be careful if you have sensitive skin though, because it says not to use it on your skin. I have never had it bother my skin though and I wash it off right away. It gets pretty much anything off!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
