I tried to do sit ups last night and experienced a lot of pain around my port area. Just wondering if anyone else has trouble with doing Sit ups and crunches on the floor. What are some other alternative exercises to work my stomach and core.

I was told not to do abdominal excercise until 6 weeks. I was told this after did some crunches and pull something, it has taken a month for the pain to totally go away.

Welll my doctor told me to not do any abdominal exercises for at least 1 year after surgery and i will be taking his advice. But there are so many other things that you can do besides crunches. such as holding in your tummy while on the treadmill and other machines and walking. use like 5lbs or 10lbs weights and lean side to side or turn side to side even riding a bike can work on your tummy if you hold it in while riding. try it .

I asked every week about abdominal exercise until 3 months post op and I finally got the green light.

I use 2 MedX machines at my gym for abs. I also love yoga for abs. My husband got P90X and I have trouble keeping up with their ab video but I modify. I'm going to get Insanity and see how that works out.

Maybe try plank positions. Those force you to hold your ab muscles without as much stretching and squishing as sit ups. The yoga suggestion is great and there may be a few pilates positions that might work.

I am almost 4 months post op and am still scared to use my ab muscles too much. Which I know doesn't exactly help them get stronger. I am just so scared of pulling or doing something to my port. I still get discomfort near my largest incision if i do sit ups or twist wrong. Maybe I should look into alternative ab exercises.

I asked my Dr. today, I am almost 4 weeks post op and he said abdominal exercises are okay. Looks like it just depends on your Dr and how you feel. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
