Need A Removal.. Im Scared

Recommended Posts

Im 20 years old and I've had my band for 3 years. I need a removal because My body is not "compliant" with the band.. I have fluctuated between 280-265 since having my band but have not seen any physical results. I am now 1 pound below pre-band weight.. So I'm getting a removal. The problem is I'm extremely scared of going under and never waking up. Just someone tell me everything is going to be ok :'-(

You went under when you had the band in the first place and you woke up then so there is no reason now that things won't be the same. I think your fear is extremely common, I have had a number of ops and I'm always scared that I won't wake up either.

I, too, understand your fear. It's always scary going under, but the odds are very, very, very likely that you will be fine. I had mine removed less than a week ago, and I am here to tell the tale. :)

Good luck to you!

Well stay positive. I just had my band slip semi fixed and since it was an emergency operation I didn't even think about the "not waking up" part, but like the other reader said you did it once and you woke up fine so what's gonna make it any different now? just stay positive and everything will turn out well, goodluck 2 u.

Try not to worry

Complications are SO RARE. If you were ok the first time you went under then there's no reason to believe you will have trouble now

My anesthesiologist told me that I have a greater chance of getting hurt on the freeway then from anesthesia. (And I go on the freeway every day! )

I too have had many operations, my latest was Neck fusion July 20th which has a lot of complication associated with it, but nothing to do with the anaesthetic. I had my band removed June 15th and will have my Sleeve done September 25th that is three operations within four months. Take care, try to be positive I pray all will be good for you.

Thank you all for your kind words! I just had the removal and the surgery went well. Recovery on the other hand is a different story. I am healing well although very sore. More that my midsection is my neck. I don't know what happened in the surgical room; I woke up from surgery with the feeling of an elephant sitting on my shoulders. Any similar feelings?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
