You sound so down on yourself and you shouldn't. You had a bad day and yes, it sucks. But, we all have to get back on the horse and keep doing what we're doing. I have finally learned that each day is a brand new chance to do things better. And if you "mess up" at one meal, don't discount the entire day as a failure...just do better at your next meal. You are doing this for YOU because you're worth it. Get back up and try again. The liquids stage SUCKS and it really tests you. We all suffered through it and we can tell you that there is light at the end of the tunnel so hang in there and let us know how you're doing! Tomorrow is a new day!

Oh my gosh am I ever touched that you guys wrote to me with your help and suggestions cuz I really feel like I failed and that I am falling apart.
You need to seek emotional help. The surgeon who performed my surgery had an emotional support group that I went to once before surgery and many times after surgery.

In my book, there are only two kinds of people: Those seeing a mental health professional and those who should be seeing a mental health professional. Seek out help. I do not know if there are 12 steps groups like CoDependents Anonymous or such in your area and I don't know enough about you to know which 12 step program might be most appropriate, but please seek help.

You are not a failure and you did not waste $16,000.

You are depressed. Many of us are depressed after such a life altering event as Lap-Band surgery. It is as if we just went to a funeral for our best friend. We have just lost our life long companion: food.

I hope you are not offended by my insistence that you get emotional help. Many people equate the need for emotional help with pictures of asylums. There is much stigma placed on mental help by some people. That is their mental problem.

Please take care of yourself. Things can only get better. Some day you will look back at this and laugh.

Dear Tired Old man..I wish you would change you addy to old guy who is upbeat and incredibly supportive. Want to hear something funny? I am a mental health professional........isnt this like physician heal thyself??? I am also seeing a shrink and have since sept ......seems like so many isssues coming up and food is not a big deal to her, I don't think she gets it. I have worked with her and respect her immensly, infact she was the one who told me about this surgery that one of her patients had already had.

hang in there! when i went to my 1st follow up and was switched to mushies after 4 wks of liquids, my nutritioninst said that many people do not follow the diet to the tee, i had baked potato and ice cream (1x ea) but she said to try your best and start each day new! you can do it! i reallu liked low fat chive and toasted onion cottage cheese whipped and even added taco bell sauce to reg whipped cott cheese for a mexican flavor, you may find it's flavors, not food you crave so add spices to things to give yourself some variety!

The first month was hell for me. It was a really emotional time and I fought a lot of those "I'm already screwing up" demons. Once life settles down a little and you get more used to your new belly things will get easier! You just gotta find your groove!

kimmason - yes you can but it it's made by hood and it;s lowfat cottage chese with chives and toasted onion. i cheated a bit with a baked potato with butter and lowfat or fatfree sour cream and i could eat about 1/2, the next nite i put on nacho cheese and that too was good but mush it up really well!!! i got on mushies last week and find that i am eating a bit more than i thought i'd be able to. about 1-3 oz per meal, thank goodness no sliming yet so i musn't be eat too, too much. i stick to 3-6 small meals/snacks/day and lots of liquids. my first fill is 9/27 so hopefully i won't be eating tons by then :)

I hit the 270s! This was another roadblock before me, because I figured I would need 20 pounds to say that I was "safely" away from the 300s. And finally I got it! 279 when I weighed Sunday morning.

Congratulations! I know exactly how you feel about wanting that 20 lb cushion, Wheetsin. My scale is teetering between 278 and 280 and I can't wait to officially be in the 270s.

Good job! Woohoo!

250 will be nice, but the next weight I'm eager to see is 230ish. Between 230 - 245. For me that's a size 20, and the last time I could look at myself and feel comfortable was in a size 20... so it will kick of my "return to me".

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
