Post Surgery Weight Loss Before Fill?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone so happy to be a member of this community. I just had my consult yesterday and will be getting the band soon. I guess I'm wondering if you started losing weight before the 1st fill of your band. I'm guessing after surgery you are on liquids. I don't have all of the info yet. Just curious how soon I can expect to lose after the surgery? Just excited for the losing to begin. :)

Hey Banderama,

My doctor put me ful liquids two weeks prior to surgery. This included Protein shakes 2 - 3 times a day. the day before surgery i went on Clear Liquids. i continued for 3 days post op. I then returned to full liquids for day 4-14. I'm post-op day 11 now and i've lost @ 20 pounds since i started the pre-op diet with full liquids. I will start soft foods next wednesday. I can't wait. Liquids have gotten old.

I know each doctor is different so you're doctor may have a different plan.

Hope this helps....

Okay this makes sense. Now why does everyone talk so much about walking. Is this to help with the gas people are talking about? Thanks!

My doctor recommended walking to but i didn't really have any gas. I did walk a little bit the day i came home and the following day. But mostly i slept. Everyone is different though. My surgery wasn't bad at all. I didn't take any pain meds once i left the hospital. Which really shocked me, i was expecting to be in pain.

Wow thanks! I'm hoping mind goes as smoothly as yours! Some of these people have such a long recovery. I have a high pain tolerance so we shall see. Looking forward to losing weight. The pain will be worth it!

My final preop weigh in was 282. When I went in for my first fill (about 4-6 weeks out) I was like 272. I was exercising preop (1 hr of cardio 7 days a week) so I did return to the gym day 4.

I had my surgery 4/25 it went really smooth . Had pain for 2-3 days I think that was due to the hernia repair they done at the same time . I was up and walking the next day . The walking is very important . #1 it help to prevent the formation of blood clots due to immobility , #2 helps prevent pneumonia . So get up and walk and do the spirometer they give you . Good luck :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
