Today was my 1 month follow up and scheduled for my first fill, this week I have been having a flare up due to lupus, overall not feeling good, I was NOT numbed before the poke my dr said " we don't numb anyone because they can be over poked" it was painful! I felt immediate stabbing pain in my back. And the sensation of the Fluid running through the port was excruciating. I had to ask her to stop! I couldn't take it anymore. A 10/10 pain. And I have a high tolerance to pain. I'm wondering has anyone else experienced pain like this, it's probably that my body is sensitive and hurting because of my flare up :/

I've never had that, sounds awful. Were you able to get a fill?

I don't know that many doctors numb people before giving a fill though.

Im numbed and there is zero pain i don't even feel the needle going in. The shot to numb it is just a tiny sting. I cant believe she didnt just numb the area if you were in that kind of pain.

Sorry to hear your experience! I have never had numbing with a fill and have never felt the Fluid running through the port - but then I wouldn't expect to either once the needle is in the port.

Good luck with getting another fill with numbing first.

Myself and 2 others I know get numbed before a fill. Thankful! After hearing of your experience. Though maybe your other physical challenges enhance the prob. I'd demand numbing so you can have success! I had no pain at my 1st fill. Just the pinch from the numbing. Felt nothing of the port probing or saline going thru port. Took 20 secs total maybe. Was quick!

I even asked the physicians if other patients have pain when they get a fill. She said no,sometimes it's uncomfortable.. I'm just so traumatized from it all,I really wanted it done. I could feel the cord that runs to the band as it was getting filled and it was the weirdest thing.but I couldn't believe all the pain I was having, hoping it was just because I'm sick right now and that the next time I go in,it won't be painful. Crossing my fingers. More upset that I drove over an hour away for my appointment, time, money, gas lost.i should have reschedule till I felt better. Idk :/

I was wondering the same thing about the port location. Only because the first week post op I could really feel the port and after starting back at the gym 8 days post op I did Zumba, running and since then I haven't felt the port. The dr had a hard time finding it. She went off the fact that I said I was tender where my scar was. Honestly I felt she had poked muscle or fatty tissue omg something! I doubt it should have been painful

The lapband site used to say that autoimmune disease were a contraindication for getting banded( I don't know if it still says it) , maybe your experience is an example of why?

My doc always numbs the port area before a fill. I did fill the Fluid going through the tube and into the band on the first fill. It did not hurt, just a tightening of the band. I liked being able to feel it cause that allowed me to know where the band was and that it was actually there. I hope you have a better experience on your next visit. Ask them to numb the port site. If they can't find a doctor who will. You should not be in that much pain.

Good luck

I was diagnosed with lupus 2years ago and at my pre op visit my surgeon discussed with me that the band might not be suitable for me because of lupus but he never explained why.. If it is lupus related that sucks! I can't even describe how it felt. Like it felt like rope was wiggling around inside.im really sensitive to touch when I have a flare up.i listen to my body obsessively.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
