Trying To Get Back On The Losing Bus! Help!

Recommended Posts

hey guys, my name is Josh im 26 and from Louisville Ky, I am 4 years post op (july 2, 2008) I started at 402, and got down to 280, and since then have gained 30 to 40 lbs back!, I HAVE NOT been doing what I am supposed to do, and have little to no restriction.

Should I go on liquids for 3-5 days to shrink my pouch down? and then get back on it hardcore and get the rest of this weight off? I have a baby on the way and I need to be healthy! any help, guidance, or similar experiences is greatly appreciated!

It's been said that the bandsters who fail are usually the ones who never go back to their doc or nutritionist. You may want to visit with you doctor again? Sounds like you could use a fill. You'll go on liquids for a few days after a fill.

Do you think you've stretched your pouch? Or, do you not have enough restriction? I've never had your problem and haven't read about it here on the forum. But, it would seem like the way to shrink your pouch(if it's stretched), would be to completely unfill your band so that food passes through freely and you aren't eating so much that the pouch gets filled? I don't think 3-5 days is nearly enough. Maybe 6 weeks?

Only your doctor can answer those questions with any confidence I would think?

Still, you're down 80 or so lbs so that's a good thing.

There is the "5 day pouch test" which some say helps reboot the pouch. I would say to visit your doctor. How many CC's are in your band? If the band is full you may need to empty it and restart the fills. If the band is not full I would try a fill and see if that helps you any.

Even though I am at restriction, if I am at home I always weight out 3 oz of Protein. I then eat mostly low fat/cal veggies and then some fruit until full. You can start following the band "diet" even before seeing your doctor. Boils down to just because you CAN eat more than 3 oz Protein, it does'nt mean you SHOULD.

How are your food choices? It's not just how much but what you eat. If neccesary go back to the basics, skinless chicken breast instead of fried chicken, burgers, pizza.

Are you exercising? Most doctors say at least 30 minutes cardio daily.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
