Ibanded One Week Ago Today!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! My name is Robert and I had the iband procedure last week and wow those first 5 days were brutal! I'm feeling much better today and looking forward to a healthier me and lifestyle.

I've spent most of my life overweight so I know these changes are a not going to come easy, but it looks like there is so much support out there and here that at least I know I am not alone! In the first week I am already down 12 pounds! I'm so excited. Can't wait to hear and read about everyone's success stories! Look forward to meeting and talking with you all.

Welcome! It's always good to see guys on the boards. The girls seem to dominate here but the differences between all our concerns, victories and setbacks seem to be similar. I can't relate to getting into a size 8 dress but I can relate to sitting in a plane and not rubbing shoulders with skinny passengers on each side of me.

If you are like many of us who have been banded you will begin to learn all the minor and not so minor items that the seminars, doctors, nutritionists and nurses never told you.

For example, and you may already know this, the first 30 days of your journey you will lose 10-30 lbs of mostly Water weight. You'll lose some fat but the vast majority will be Water. You probably won't lose a lot of weight till you get that one fill that gets you into the green zone. And then it will only be 4-8 lbs a month. You'll probably meet "Bandster Hell" any time now. BH is the time between post op swelling and restriction. The docs don't put a lot of saline in your band and after the edema from the surgery trauma goes down your portal between your upper and lower pouch is larger than it will eventually be.

During this time you will be hungry. Very hungry. This is the time to work on your food choices and eating habits. Some bandsters luck out and find restriction right from the gitgo. Let's hope you're one of them.

Remember, It's still a diet until there's restriction.

I was starving on liquids too. I started reading through all of my booklets that I was given from day 1 until surgery day, and saw where I could have certain foods upon being discharged from the hospital. I was ecstatic! So since then (I was banded on 6/12) I have had eggs, baked chicken, soft cheese, and stuff like that. It doesn't take much to fill me up thank God. But I feel sooooo much better with a little fuel. :) And I have definitely remembered to chew, chew, chew and eat VERY slowly.

Wow congrats to all, well my waiting has come to an end because I'll get banded tomorrow if gods willing. I have lost few pounds within the last month I really didnt do the pre-op diet how I was supposed to and I am feeling a little guilty abaout it but hey I needed to enjoy my last meals but in moderation. Tomorrow will start my real journey and I am so ready about. Last year around this time, I was weighting 250 that was about 5-6 months after I had my first baby which I gained 60lbs during my pregnancy; but thank God today I am weighting 229 and looking forward to reach my goal which is 160lbs. I am so thankful that I found this website because I really dont have much support people just dont understand that this is a sickness, it is not just being overweight its a mental problem. I am hoping for the best and praying God to give me enough strengh to go thru this process and have a wonderful accomplishment. We all can this this..

Hi, I was banded on 6/28 so going through those brutal days now. Spend half the day today in the doctors office getting iv fluids because I was dehydrated and vomiting. Ready to experience better days soon.

Good luck to you,

Deborah

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
