Still Waiting...starting To Lose Hope!!

Recommended Posts

I am 2 months in on my 6 month medicare required diet. The waiting is killing me and now I am starting to wander if it is worth it. I know without the surgery, I will never be healthy, but I am stll having doubts. This is a great site, but seeing all the people who are almost at their surgery date is making me sad. I want so bad to be where they are, but I am feeling like it just isn't gonna happen for me. Anyone else in the same situation?

I started my six month diet (for Aetna insurance) May 16th so I am right there with you. It is frustrating and makes me wonder if they think we will change our minds in the six months?? I have also met others on here that have a year wait- it makes me glad I only have six months. Good luck to you and hopefully the time will fly by :)

I totally understand and was feeling the same way in month 2-3. I almost gave up because I would have all these negative thoughts. Don't let it get to you, baby steps. I read a quote on here that helped me..."don't focus so much on the end, fall in love with the journey." Think of where you will be in 6 months if you don't pursue it. Keep at it and stay on here it is a great place to get support.

I would feel the exact same way in your shoes, but look at it like this: You're only 4 months away from finishing the required supervised diet. That will go by SO fast!! If you quit now, in 4 months you're going to be kicking yourself going "ugh I could be banded right now!"

I was banded in January and my mom decided she wanted it too. However, she also had to have a 6 months doctor supervised diet for approval. She has blown it off over and over. Recently she commented on how good I look and how great I've done losing weight, but then added "I'll always be fat, I'm never going to lose this weight". I said to her "Mom, if you had started the diet 5 months ago when you originally looked into it, you'd only be 1 month from surgery now. So why not quit procrastinating and just do it before another 6 months waste by?"

Don't quit now, you're so close!!!

Hang in there!! Think how long you have been overweight, and how 6 months is nothing in the scheme of things! Just enjoy your summer, and once August rolls around you will be ready to go!!! Good luck, stay strong and think about that cute little girl, do it for her!!!

Mis73 I am 64 and thank God I take the chance and had surgery. You tell your Mom she'll never know if she doesn't take a chance, any weight loss is good and will lengthen your life expectancy!

I lose slowly now but, I am still losing lbs & inches - YAHOO..... wearing a size 12 now. I would never have gotten this far with surgery -never.

Time passes no matter what you do. Why not continue on? In 4 months you will either be done with the 6 month requirement or you will be 4 months older wondering if you should have finished it, and no where closer to being banded or healthier.

If it makes you feel any better I had a surgery date that was like a week away and had to postpone due to an unresolved blood clot. I was DEVASTATED. I used that time to really work on my food habits. To continue exercising.

It's easy to see surgery as a finish line, considering all the tests and appointments you have to go through. Surgery however is the starting line. The band will not magically reduce the food you can eat. It can take 6 months before you get restriction. This will be a will power diet until then.

Maybe you should buy a digital food scale and start weighing you food now. You will need a food scale after surgery anyway. Put yourself on a 1500 cal diet and start exercising. This is a lifestyle why not start now?

Wow, 2 months in!! I am finished with my required 6 month diet, but I have one more consult due to clotting disorder ( shouldofbeen taken care of during my 6 month but I can't change it) anyways, when I spoke to the surgery scheduler, they were booking out in September - from NOW! I'm not even sure once I have this consult what date I will be looking at, it will be a year in September for me. :/

It did go by pretty fast for me though, trying to make sure I make the right food choices, getting into an exercise program, reading a lot on here, watching Utube videos for inspiration, and losing some weight on my own - you can do it!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
