Doctor Forgot To Give Me The Spirometer After Surgery!!

I had Lapband surgery on Friday and my doctor forgot to give me the spirometer!! I was all drugged up so I didn't even think about it, I was perfectly fine until last night I started coughing and whezzing!! This morning I walked my son to school and almost passed out because I was not breathing correctly! I called the doctor and he told me that's why I gave you the spirometer to avoid breathing issues!! I said I'm sorry but I think you forgot to give it to me!! Long story short, now I'm sitting in a hospital bed getting breathing treatments every 2-4 hours!! So please avoid this if you are having surgery don't forget the spirometer!! :-/

Never had one for my band. I had one over 20 years ago when I my gall bladder removed with a full open procedure. I needed it then but not for the band.

Use it if you have it! I could tell a differnce in my lung capacity after surgery. I used it for over a week until I didn't have any pain when using it.

they never gave me one either and didnt even tell me anything about it

I was told to cough and to walk. I had no problems even tho' I have chronic bronchiatis. Best wishes,Karen

After surgery, you are groggy from anesthetic and your post-op nurse would have had you using it in the hospital and made sure you took it home with you. Generally the person who takes you home is given your personal items, the discharge paperwork and instructions and any devices (spirometer). Some people don't need a spirometer...I had one for my banding surgery because I had hiatal hernia repair...breathing was painful. Regardless, the nursing staff should have made sure you had it at discharge and given instructions for its use to you responsible person. The doctor only prescribes it...

Hope you feel better soon!

Glad you are feeling better!! i never had one for any of my surgeries... never even had it mentioned!
