Everyone is different. It depends on if you are following the lap-band diet (so to speak) and if you are exercising any. There's one person on here who lost 50lbs in 3-4 months because when he was allowed he was exercising 3-5 days a week and eating a high Protein, very low fat diet.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery Aubrey! As difa said, everyone is different. It really depends on you and how strict you are. You've probably heard or read that about 3-4 weeks after surgery, you start feeling back to normal again. Since you'll probably have minimal if any Fluid in your band, your stomach will pretty much be like it was before surgery. This is what we call "bandster hell". If you have a lot of will power and are going into this surgery prepared.. you will do great! As you go in for fills, you'll start to feel restriction and it'll take less will power to fight off those food urges.

Personally, I lost 10lbs before surgery on my preop diet, then lost a total of 8lbs over the first 4 months. Just this last month have I really hit my groove.. I've lost 10 more lbs since my last fill and am definitely feeling the restriction and less hungry. With that said, I was NOT strict enough with myself. The more you exercise and eat healthy.. the more you'll lose. Just like if you didn't have the band at all.

Good luck and keep us posted. :) Angela

It does depend on how strict you are with your diet and exercise until you get to restriction. From late February to now, I have lost over 40lbs.

In the beginning, I was super strict with calories and the foods I was eating. Now that I have some restriction, I am transitioning from calorie counting to what I would consider "normal." I still keep loose track of the calories I am eating but am relying more on good food choices because my band does limit the amount I can eat.

Hi Newbies! Welcome to lapband "Heaven"! How quickly you loose does depend on how much effort you put in. But, I have determined by reading this site, that it,also, depends on how much you have to loose. If you have a lot to loose, then it seems to come off quicker. But as you get closer to goal, or if you have less to loose, then it take longer. I hoe that that makes sense! Anyway, you should be able to loose 1-2 lbs a week when you 1st start. Than later maybe only 5 a month. Suddenly, it will drop to nothing, you will hit a plateau, but if you cut your calories, or increase your exercise, your weight loss will pick back up. Best wishes to you all. Karen

As the others said, everyone is different and how much work you're willing to put into plays a big part. Until you have some restriction you're working on will-power, and for some it's just too hard. For others, they white knuckle through and remain strict even before they have restriction.

I've lost 94 pounds in just under 5 months (so far), but I am also very strict with my diet, calories, and Protein intake. I have been strict with calories and Protein since the day I got home from the hospital.

Some of us are just slow losers. I exercise up to 1-2.5 hr's a day and eat very conservatively. Still I loose less than 1lb a week.

a lot of it is eating the right foods...eating healthy foods at 1500 calories is different than half good and half bad at 1500

I am 7 months out and down 70 pounds. I dont always eat the best but I do eat much smaller portions of course and I exercise quite a bit. You will get out of it what you put into it. Its all well worth it in the end.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
