Do Banders Ever Have A Glass Of Wine Or A Cocktail?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon says no alcohol for 1 year after surgery and no carbonate beverages at all. There are several issues with alcohol from what I understand:

  1. Empty calories.
  2. Alcohol can cause ulcers
  3. Addiction - If someone is a food adict they can transfer addiction to alcohol.

I think it really becomes a judgement call for each person but those are the risks as I know them.

You can have a glass of wine, or a cocktail, but remember that these are empty calories. Also, you will get DRUNK! alot faster, I found that one out at a wedding, Yikes!

Also, if you have even one drink, your inhibitions are lowered and you will eat things you know you shouldn't. Also another thing I learned the hard way, to much to drink and I eat high calorie slider foods, not good if you are trying to lose weight.

So, the moral of the story, watch what you eat and drink! Keep the alcohol to a minimum and be careful, alcohol will effect you so much differently now!

You said exactly what I was going to say! I don't have the slider food problem, becasue I don't eat/drink. But it hits you real quick and as this person said empty calories.

my dr said ok to an occasional drink. i dont like beer, wine, or hard alcohol except for strawberry margaritas.mmmmmmmmmmmmm....... any hoo, keep this story in mind, i only have 1 -2 margaritas a month (or less) but i found out the hard way that the type of tequila can make a huge difference, really good Jose Cuervo tequila=no problems, cheap tequila at a mexican resturant=major reaction !(i threw up every thing!) Before being banded i had no problems with the cheap kind. Good luck !

Admittedly I am not a drinker. Sure you can have alcohol but it really is just calorie Water. If someone told you they were working really hard to loose weight but then said they had snicker bar several days a week; you might roll your eyes.

I have to agree with honk...but maybe because I'm also not a drinker, and I'm still pre-op and completely focused on the vision of giving my body only what it needs. It seems like the most successful bandsters focus on protien, veges, then fruit, and staying hydrated with Water. The surgeon that spoke at our seminar also highly discouraged alcohol just because replacing a food addiction with another substance is entirely too easy. But again, I'm not a drinker, and I'm pre-op :)

I am not a drinker as a rule but will occasionally have a glass of Merlot or Blush wine or a mixed drink such as grape vodka/diet cranberry juice.< /p>

An occasional drink is fine. My view is that by denying or banning myself from any specific food or drink (except where I cannot tolerate that food for some reason, like bread, rice, and red meat!), will only make me want it more. Then it becomes a battle of wills which I will inevitably lose and feel guilty about. By allowing myself an occasional drink at a special event, I enjoy and appreciate it, but I also make sure I log the calories in myfitnesspal.com

ive had a couple of glasses of wine a week, sometimes i Water it down quite a bit. im still losing over a pound a week, which suites me fine. its not causing me to eat more so far. im not advocating that its good to have alcohol but i do have a few glasses a week and its fine so far.

Im having a glass of red wine nearly every night and im still losing over a pound a week. i honestly dont want to lose any faster than that. im 66, and already over 7 weeks have lost a 1/4 of my body weight. Im quite happy with the way things are going and so is my specialist. Im still on liquids and soups... 2nd day out from my first fill.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
