Lap Band With Gastric Plication

Recommended Posts

Bama' date=' Kah, Melinda - glad to hear you all are doing well. Kah, I hope you enjoyed your vacation - it sounds like it!! Congrats, Bama - that is great!! Carolina, how are you doing? I have a question for the experienced ones - what is good or acceptable weight loss after an adjustment? I got my first one on the 5th and am down 8 lbs so far. Not sure if that is good, bad, or average. Don't really feel like getting bitched out by the doctor, so I want to have an idea ahead of time. Thanks - you guys have been really great!!! Only 1 more pound to go and I will have lost 50 lbs since I started this process in January, and 18 since surgery on May 7th - again, is that bad?[/quote']

That sounds good to me! I keep fluctuating a bit every day.., I really need to stick to a weekly weigh, but that's so hard! 50 is amazing... I'm chasing you! 50 will be a big celebration! Congrats!

Kah1213 - so glad you are back in the saddle. Hope you enjoyed your vacation - I am so jealous. Sounds like you did very well with your band on a cruise. I can only imagine the temptations. Have a great weekend.

I decided I'll get on the scale tomorrow to see if any damage was done! Scared lol

Question for you guys: I've gotten 'stuck' a few times on scrambled eggs. It's possible I ate too fast or took big bites, but I'm a little surprised that I got stuck when I haven't had a fill yet. Anyone else go through this? Also, I did eat the eggs in the morning, and I've heard the band in tighter in the morning. I see my doc this week again. I'll be interested to see what he says too. Maybe I don't need a fill yet?

I know it can be crazy, but every doc is different. When did your doc say you can move to mushies?

Kah - eggs and I have a love/hate relationship. Some of the worst stuck episodes I have had is with eggs. - Scrambled,Fried, boiled - it does not matter. My doctor told me that eggs will do that sometimes and just don't eat them for a while and then try again later. As for a fill - are you getting hungry in 3 hours or so after a meal? Do you want to snack or need to snack? That is the true indicator.

Courtney Danielle - don't know why you are on the bypass diet. I would ask the doctor - they are all different. By that point - I was on mushies (oatmeal, apple sauce, mashed potatoes etc). Hang in there until you see your doctor - food is in your future !!!

You shouldn't have to get one for quite awhile right due to the plication? or do I have that wrong?

well, my 1st month post op is july 6th. depends on how i feel and how we are doing (i guess weight wise) we may get a wee one or wait another month. i am not sure. from what i understand, the plication helps with not getting as many fills as my stomach is now very small (similiar to the sleeve;s).

oh...I thought they wait As long as your losing then once it slows down then the fills begin. I read someones post that was getting her first fill after surgery 6mos ago becuase her weight loss had stopped so it was time for fills I thought this was the norm I guess you will know for sure soon either way you made it through major surgery you can get make it through that a little needle prick(smile)

I was just wondering for how long do we have to get adjustments? I don't have the job with the insurance anymore that covered the procedure and any related work. My three month global period ends next month, and I was just curious what timeframe is involved with the adjustments. Melinda, I think you had your procedure 9 months ago and had an adjustment this month - how long does that last? Hope you are doing well, Carolina, Kah, Bama, Melinda, Shy....it's too early for my brain today.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
