Lap Band With Gastric Plication

Recommended Posts

Shy2012 - thanks for your kind words and your encouragement. My doctor is a lap band patient..he has had his band about 4 years and lost 90 pounds..hey' date=' he is a man and you know how fast they loose weight. That is why is went into doing that type of surgery. He used to be a general surgeon. Anyway, I am so tight I eat out of thimble (just kidding of course) but my dog eats more than I do and she only weighs 10 pounds. The scale is moving and so am I. No PB, or slime tonight - I guess I am finally "getting it".

Have a good evening..

Well I leave tomorrow to go on a week long trip. I'm 2.5 weeks post op and I'm a little nervous about eating out in a group, but hopefully it all goes well. I think I'll still need to track my calories and maybe this will be the first trip in my life where I LOSE weight instead of gain weight?!? ;) i dont think i have anything in my band, so this is where im hoping the plication helps me feel full for longer periods of time and with less food. Wish me luck.

Hey group, how's everyone doing? Just thought I would pop in and say hi. I'm doing good although very "restricted" but that is OK, I was a BAD girl so I am now paying the price. I have dropped 7 pounds in 12 days so you can tell I am not eating much. OK to start exercising today (since toe surgery) and I am looking forward to that - it is time to sweat a bit. Hope everyone is having a good week.

Hey all, I had lap band w plication on 6-6-12 started muchies this week and my weight loss has stalled. Is this normal for any of you? I feel frustrated because it was coming off so nicely and now nothing. I don't think I've gained any but still no loss. Is this normal for you all?

Hello there! You are doing awesome....I gained 3 lbs. I'm on regular food now. Between mushies and starting reg food on Sunday. I'm not eating over 1000 cal a day. I'm using the lose it app and I've noticed I was having to many carbs. Gotta work on that. I can definitely say the plication is restricting me from eating a lot. I can only eat half of a turkey burger. My focus is to reduce the carbs and see what happens. It's my Tom so that could be a reason too for the gain. I'm not going to be discouraged going to my appointment tomorrow . Sorry for rambling! Hope everyone is doing great...

shy2012 - glad to hear you are about to begin "real food". Don't worry about the 3 pounds - that could even be Water weight..you know how us girls hold water sometimes. Can't wait to hear how your appointment goes.

Got a problem...ate a small homemade crab cake last night and stir fried vegies. Well, I learned that stir fry and I are not going to make it...The cabbage got stuck and for 2 1/2 hours I had severe chest pain, PBs, regurgitation and had difficulty even talking...wow - no more cabbage for me. I guess we all learn and sometimes the hard way. I would have thought it would have been ok as I cooked it to death and chewed it forever..Oh well. I lived to tell the story so guess all is ok.

Have a great weekend

Courtneys Mom:

Congratulations on your surgery..that being said, yes, the gas thing is rough..WALK as much as you can, even it it is just around the house. Try Gas X. It didn't help me but other said it did. What helped me was my nausea medicine (tasted awful) it releaved my gas. By day 7 I had returned to work full time and felt fantastic - so I am sure you will feel great soon. If you still are having issues tomorrow, I would call my doctor. Don't wait until the weekend and then feel bad - call no later than Friday AM. Hope you feel better soon. Congrats on that weight loss too. Hang in there is gets better.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
